Thinking of a E or another S class

I'll probably get a lot of differant opinions but here it goes.
I now have an '96 S320 that I love. We keep thinking to sell and get a newer one or a newer E class. If we went with the E, what year(s) would be best to look at? Are there years that I would want to just stay away from? Any know issues I would want to ask about with the car? Any other pertanant info that would lead me to the best car.
Thanks

stay away from 03-06, get an 07+

If you're comfortable w/ a car the size of the "S" which you probably are since you have a S320, got for the "S"

The S400 Blue Hybrid might be a good fit.

With S, go 04 - 06. Better nav unit, updated electronics, better exterior, etc. The 03 has the facelift like the 04 - 06, except the nav unit is DX, not DVD (DVD holds more info). Also, the 04 - 06 has the newer tranny (7 speed vs 5 speed). However, I prefer the old 5 speed due to the way I can manually control gears (1 by 1 vs the 7 speed picks lowest gear possible when you downshift manually).

With E, I can say, 06+ is more reliable. With the 06 you get the pre face lift body if that's what you prefer (like me). I was gonna get an 05 cause of less problems than 04, but the 04 had the best options available all together, I got everything I wanted. I have not heard of any serious reoccurring issues on the 07+ cars (those are the facelifted ones).

If you're thinking about getting a 2009 E-Class, now is the right time:

"Mercedes-Benz 2009 E-Classes HUGE DISCOUNTS: E350 for $35.5K, E550 for $51K, E63 AMG for $67K (YMMV depending on the dealer)"

Seems like lots of people are getting in on these deals, and many dealers are running out of stock, or has already run out of stock in the last couple weeks or so. (Most of the remaining stock seems to be on the west coast, according to posters in the thread.)
