I think 06 W211 NGT and E200 NGT say everything about the car. US members may know about it equally as European know the US model specifics.
Anyway an interesting point, I assume the problem for the cluster is to handle both the range available with gasoline and natural gas. The average fuel consumption is usually measured from the injection time which gives an accurate measure of liquid spent. Natural gas would need a different sensor, perhaps the only info the car has is if the gas reservoir is empty or not. I don't know how the gas reservoir content could be measured except from weight and that is not practical in a car. Pressure does not tell the right thing.
Now if they cannot show the "fuel consumption" for natural gas, I assume for consistency they don't show it when the car is driven with gasoline even if that was possible. I hope you get this confirmed by other owners of a similar model.
