Wait...
Stock W211 E500's were tested by all the rags at roughly 14.1-14.2 @99-100 mph, no?
And I thought that W211 E550s were tested at 13.30-13.50@103-108mph
I'm confused at why you say there is no performance difference between the two. Or were you using my 13.49@102.5 as a barometer for E500s. Keep in mind that my E500 is heavily modded.

RE: W211 Performance
I have owned both an 05 E500 and an 07 E550.
I never timed the E500 at a track, but I would estimate it would do 0-60 in the high 5 second range and the 1/4 mile in around 14 seconds flat at 100 or so mph. It was pretty strong up to 80, but was much slower after that.
I was able to get a couple of time trials in my 550, and ran 2 13.3X's at between 106 - 107 mph. It ran 0-60 in the high 4 second range, about a second faster than the E500, and would positively smoke a 500 above 80.
That being said, I had the opportunity to drive my sold E550 for about 30 minutes last week, and it honestly felt really tame (slow) compared to my current E63, night and day personality difference.
From my real world perspective, in stock form the E550 is considerably faster than the E500, but if you want to go fast, get an E55 or E63, they have a very different temperament so to speak.

you are absolutely correct, discussions should not be combative.
again, I apologize for posting in a manner in which you were unable to understand (my post "failed").

Well, my SL600 is a roadster, not a sedan, but what's a couple of doors between friends? ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
