New grille install

Hey all,

I just installed a new OE grille, and the lower part of the grille sticks out just a bit. Does anyone know how to adjust this? Does this possibly have anything to do with me tightening the screws too much?

Thanks-Shugl

Did you try loosening the top to see if the bottom becomes more flush?
Where did you order it from?

Shugl, I've seen this with some of the aftermarket grilles. The OEM grill doesn't do that. The mold isn't the same on the aftermarket ones and they tend to stick out like that.

It won't matter if you loosen/tighten the top, etc.. It's just the way it is.

Hey guys,

I did play around with the screws a bit and there was some improvement. The pictures actually make it look a lot worse than it really is. Just one of those small things that can annoy you.

I bought the grille from 123mercedes.com. This is definitely an aftermarket grille, so I should have stated this is an OE style, versus OE product.

Thanks for the comments 220S. I still like the way it looks. We'll see how it goes, I'll probably end up changing it later and putting it up for sale.

Yeah, it's really not noticeable to anyone else. Just be sure the screws are tight; you don't want them coming off

fwiw, I've had the same grille and it protruded a little bit like that. Just last week I put the OEM one back on and the fit is a lot better.

But again, nobody (except you) will ever notice.

Hey Shugl!

What size/brand are the wheels? They look nice...

I dunno, I would notice that if I were looking at the front of the car. This is my personal opinion, and I'm not sure what reason you went with an aftermarket grille is, but I wouldn't sacrifice a quality fit like that by ditching an OEM quality grille for an aftermarket one.

I disagree. If you paid for it, it should be the way you want it, and to the least fit correctly.

Haven't ditched my original grille. Always have to keep a back up plan. I was looking for an OE style grille without the embedded badge on the front, since I went with a flat badge on the hood.

I agree with you dtv211 and typically follow that line of thinking when it comes to purchases. In this case, the grille really does look good after I adjusted it a bit (IMO) and was cheap enough to try in the first place. Always have my original grille if I want to switch back.

Very nice set up...How is the ride quality compare to stock 18" AMG wheels? and Did you used any spacer or hubcentric-rings on them now?

Thanks!

The ride is suprisingly smooth after transitioning from a stock height ride. Although make no mistake, you can definitely feel the road bumps if deep enough. Installer used spacers, camber kit, and shims (higher in back/lower in rear).
