Engine Temperature

Hello,

I was wondering what the average engine temperature is on your E500. It is 28-35 degrees here in VA and at a red light the engine temperature rises to the middle mark between 120 and 80 celsius, so I am assuming 100. I remebered the gauge reading at 2-3 marks above 80, never at 100 mark. Is anyone else having this reading in cold temperature? If the engine rises this high at 30 degrees, I wonder if it will overheat during the summer.

I live in VA too. My temp gauge is always about half way maybe slightly less when the car is fully warmed up.

Thanks for the info. Are you referring to the 80 mark when you say half way or are you referring to the 100 mark?

Mine does creep up a little past 80 when it's been idling in traffic or at a stop light for a long time. On the freeway or when moving it stays right at 80 or so. I wouldn't worry about it being close to 100-- the cooling fans should turn on around there and bring it back down.

Mine runs roughly between 80-90, generally stable, but with very small fluctuations at lights, heavy traffic, etc. I tend to agree with the Gethen that unless you have large variations and it goes above 100, it is OK.

I guess I reallt never noticed it getting close to 90 mark. I just happen to notice it reaching one notch below 100 after my first oil change at 4900 miles.
