Another testiment to safety - kudos to Mercedes and Schumacher also

I got a frantic call from my sister this morning, saying that my parents had been in an accident and they weren't ok.

They have a brand new three month old 2009 W211 with all the options - gorgeous car.

Drive sixty some miles to where they were at. Luckily, they are ok, other than being very shaken up and a bit bruised.

Here's what happened: Highway patrol was tracking a bull that had broken through a fence at a ranch. They spooked the bull, it ran across the highway and my parents hit it head-on going 65mph. The entire front of the car was almost ripped off. The driver's side was dented in all the way from the front to back, and the door handles were ripped off of the doors. No frontal airbags went off...but the rest of the curtain did around the car. Tele-aid was on the line instantly asking them if they were OK, and that they knew the airbags had deployed, they knew their location, and police, fire and paramedics had all already been called.

The fireman told my dad if he hadn't been driving a Mercedes he'd be in worse shape.

I believe it. If I get pictures from my dad (other than the crappy ones from his cell phone) I'll get them on here. The cow is very, very dead.

Big kudos to Schumacher in Phoenix also. My dad called our sales guy George Limbers after the car was put on a flat-bed, and George said not to worry about a thing. He greeted the whole family when we got there, fed us, asked my dad if he wanted a sedan or an SUV, and handed him the keys to a brand new C300 until he works out what Mercedes and the insurance company wants to do with the E. I think it will be totaled. I can't see how the car will ever be the same after the damage it took.

Thumbs up Mercedes for great engineering; thumbs up to Schumacher for great service.

I'm glad your parents are OK. You should replicate this thread in the safety/testimonials thread. There are some amazing stories there including a W211 that was rear ended by an Accord at 70mph (W211 was stopped) and both passengers walked away.

Where's the beef?

In the grill of that 211

and on the fenders, and mixed in with the door handles somewhere on the road...

Thank God your parents are Ok! It just goes to show, in spite of the expensive maintenance, you do get what you pay for...the safest motor car on the road in the world.
