matte vyniling the whole care

what do you guys think? im thinking of doing the whole car matte black its not that costly either the vynil runs at like 4-500 and then my friend has a shop that does amazing work with the clear bras so i don't think it should be too hard for him to apply the vynil

So far I've seen 2 cars that had this done (a BMW and a Lexus). I understand it may be the "fad" in some locations to get this done, but to me it just looks like someone used primer and forgot to finish painting his car. Each time, I just thought to myself, "Who in the world would drop major $$$ on a BMW (and Lexus), and then drive it around with a half-assed incomplete paint job?!? Did they just get into a major accident or something and are in the middle of a paint job after scouring the junkyard for parts???" That was before I learned what vinyling was on MBWorld...

Honestly, if you like the look, then go for it. I'd rather spend $400-$500 on getting my car detailed bi-annually by Superior Shine so it looks UBER HOT! That way, un-informed people won't mistake me for someone that bought a MB and forgot (or couldn't afford) to get it painted properly...

on a show car maybe. but i would think a matte black daily driver would look pretty bad quick due to road debris, especially on the front imho. how tough is the vinyl?

Don't do it !! It seems pretty lame (not that you're lame) to have a sweet car like a Benz (or Lexus or BMW) only to ride around with what looks like an incomplete paint job. The whole idea of a nice looking luxury car is so defeated by this process,I'm not gonna say another word.....

Unless you and your friend are doing the work at the shop its gonna cost a lot more than 400-500. I think the look is not that bad..but you have to constantly keep it clean or else it does look like a car with half finished paint job. If money is not an issue..i highly recommended you go for it..and if you dont like it..just take it off..the beauty of the vinyl

i am only spending money on the actual vynil material... install will be free he has done my tints and my tail lights and as well he has installed the clear bra on my fathers s class and my cousins c class and another cousins 5 series all came out perfect and they hdo not have a problem with the road form dings and scratches (etc) the vynil he did on another car in his shop on a 6 series the car goes there for car washes weekly to this day it has no problems with the vynil material (so it must be very durable) he has had it on for a year also i get to get a WHOLE ne car color from silver which would ne nice... it would feel like a new car a bit lol

Still looks unbecoming of a luxury car. Resembles something out of Robocop (1987). All the patrol cars in that picture had that incomplete look, and it's not a good one... But it is YOUR car and YOUR money,so Good Luck

Well, you asked, so here is my reaction: One of the dumbest ideas I've heard of. Of course if matte finish is what you like, go right ahead and do it -- why ask for opinions? I do think you will absolutely kill the resale value of the car unless you can find the other person who might like this.

Somebody on the CLS forum wrapped their obsidian black CLS in matte white vinyl, not only did it cost them 3000-4000 dollars but when they pulled it off it damaged the paint. From what I understand is that the part of the car was repainted prior to the wrapping but still not a risk I'd want to take.

My opinion:

It looks like complete crap, and makes anything look like an unpainted, dirty hooptie IMO. I saw someone driving in a new M5 with it and I was shocked at how unbecoming the car looked.... Maybe it'd look decent on a big tough Truck or something.

Not only that, but it's a current fad/trend, that will be laughable in the very near future, of course even by those trend-seekers who are supporting it now. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if it does some kind of damage to the paint if/when you pull it off.

Just IMO. Go for it if you dig it, as that's all that matters.

i don't think matte vinyl would have the same quality of matte paint. but i think the effect is interesting if executed properly. except for the inevitable greasy fingerprints...!
