Breakin Period

So what is the best break-in routine, if there is one best?

I need to do a road trip this week of about 800 miles open highway, assuming I get the darned car Monday- Should I use my truck and let Mom drive the MB around town easily till I get back?

Or would varying speed and easy acceloration be ok ?

Generally, stay at posted highway speeds and vary the speed for the first 1K miles.

Better NOT let Mom drive it then. Staying at posted speeds is not something she understands.

Soooo. maybe keeping RPM's below 3000, easy acceloration, and slowing down to say 55 every 10 minutes, back to 65, then back to 75, then back to 55? All for 10-15 minute intervals?

I picked up my E-500 from a dealer about 300 miles away. I varied it a little but did not obcess over it. 70 mph a lot of the time, 60-65 a little (oh yeah...a couple of times it was, for safety, necessary to boost to 80 or so:p, but of course only for safety reasons. (like someone was in front of me).

I did take it pretty easy for the first 1000 miles as I think almost everyone does.

You don't want to stay at a constant RPM. If you break the car in while doing highway driving you can 3,4,5th gears while driving to vary your RPM, but you still want to keep it below ~4000 RPM.
