E Class Main Battery Replacement

I just purchased 2 Deka 9AGM49 batteries for my 05 CDI's. The battery is manufactured with silver calcium and is warranteed for 70 months. It has 900 CCA and sells for around $145, plus or minus a few dollars. It is an exact fit for the MB battery which is well north of $200 each. It was also designated as a K9, meaning it was manufactured for November 09, so it is very fresh. While time will tell if it meets the same standards as the MB battery, it has a very good reputation. Made in USA.

Size?

Not sure what size the 03 E Class takes, but the 05 CDI takes a Group 49 AGM type battery and is not vented.

Deka makes an excellent battery. Use them in my boat and I get 7 years out of them and all others I have used last no more than 5 years. Should be fine in your E Class although I use only MB batteries in mine.

Sealed

Battery is AGM and fully sealed. It is an exact fit replacement. It even has the small hole that allows the small vent tube that is on the original battery to fit into the DEKA battery. Remember to re-set the sunroof to auto by holding it open for a couple of seconds then closed. Same with the windows. If your clock is synced to your command, after the ignition is on and the car can see a Satellite, it will automatically re-set the clock.

I was told by a local dealer that the 9AGM49 DECA is the direct replacement of the original MB battery. It just gets MB "rebranded" before it reaches the stealership shop to be sold for substantially more. Some additional info can be found here:

Your doubts are right on target -- the MB OEM battery is made by Johnson Controls in Germany, and they're not sold in the US. Found this out when I called Johnson and they recommended going to the Napa/Deka battery when my main battery was testing low and I needed to replace it. My local Napa charged me $215 for the battery.
