Odo meter not resetting

I reset the odo everytime gas tank is filled up, so did I 2 days ago (holding down the reset knob till mpg etc become 0 and then miles listed on the bottom reset to 0) ... This morning when I started the car 577 mi came up - this was the reading before resetting ........... I did go into the secret menu (dyno mode, service menu etc) but didnt change anything ..... Any solution to this ?

You have to push the reset button more than once to clear all of the odo items. Best done in the MFD window that also has range info, IIRC.

Are you sure it does not work like explained in the manual?

For some odd reason. . . every time I go the submenu of the Voltage, Dyno Mode etc, my trip odometer mysteriously resets to the last reading it had when it was reset the last time (not what it was when I went into the submenu). So if I drove 480 on the tank and reset the meter, then I drive about 200 miles and go into the menu, then when I get back out of the menu it will read 480 once again. This is quite annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I brought it to the Dealer years ago and showed them. They said that they checked this and that it is how the software is programmed. I had some other people try it on this forum and it happened to everybody. You might even be able to find the thread on it.

So there really is nothing wrong with your car, but it does not mean that it is not a bug of some sort.

Thats exaclty what it is Steve!!

On a separate note, do you know why my car doesn't show the oil level display in that special menu ? I get these screens: UV, I/C Pin etc, Dyno, VIN, Service Menu ... Dont see Oil level anywhere ??

The oil level will ONLY show up on that menu if the ignition is turned on to the second position. I will get a quart reading when the engine has not yet been turned on (something like 8.3 qts). Once I start the car, the display is still active and working and the oil readout will still read about 5.2 qts.

So just turn the ignition key one more notch and see what happens. My car is a 2004 4-matic. I don't have a dip stick, I think that your car has one and they might have disabled the “on-board measuring” on yours. I get the quart readout in the special menu, but I get yet another oil readout in the MFD display when I toggle between, outside temp, speed, oil level and service due. I don't know if you have that anymore.

My Porsche just checks that oil in the first 5 seconds of having the ignition on (I imagine you know that about Porsches). But the Benz will only show you something if you are over a quart low (my Benz has never done that yet).

I hope this helps,

Steve

I think without page 151, it may not be clear.

Not to pull up a old post, but is there a permanent fix to this? This is the second time it happened to me. This had my head spinning as I was trying to see what the heck I did.
Thanks...Mike T.
