Brake Scare
Yesterday on my way to work I turned into the turn lane to enter work and when I pressed the brake pedal it wouldn't go down. So I put both feet on the pedal and pressed down as hard as I could, heard/felt a pop, and the brake pedal finally suppressed so I was able to stop. Thank God no one was waiting to turn in front of me or I easily would have hit them going 30 mph. Has anyone else had something like this happen before? This isn't a reoccurring problem so I am a bit sheepish to take to it the dealership for further investigation.

I think this is the first time I've read of brake failure (or potential brake failure) on a non-SBC 2007-2009 E-Class (although I'm sure there are cases that don't get reported on MBWorld.org).
I agree with werewolf... this is NOT an acceptable failure to have in a vehicle (SBC or non-SBC). Take it to a dealer ASAP and have them check it out.

Is the SBC issue similar where you cannot press down the break pedal? I thought brake failures were where you pressed the pedal to the floor and nothing happened? My issue was as if something was restricting the pedal from being depressed not allowing me to stop.

Correct this is a major safety issue. Last week I was checking the NTSB safety issues for MB"s. There were many on brake failures. I would recommend you file a safety incident report. This is the only way that data is gathered nationally to determine if a recall is necessary as in the current Toyota accelerator issue.

I would be very concerned regarding this experience you have had, especially if you confirm this happened.
What would a car insurance company make of this if you had an accident, I hope you would not tell them that you were "too sheepish to get it checked".
Please go an report it for your own safety and life, this is not right.
I don't think the pedal electronic mechanism would jam completely?

When an SBC-equipped vehicle's brakes go out, the pedal pushes down but the car doesn't respond. This is more prone to SBC cars as their brake pedal isn't really connected to the brakes. The non-SBC cars (yours) have a pedal that IS connected to the brakes like most other cars; this is why it's shocking to hear this happening in this situation.
