trading in my 06 E350 4Matic on a 08 C300 4Matic?

I like the new C class. I also like that it is newer with more trouble free miles. I have an 06 with 36,000 miles and the 08 C class has 17,000 miles. They will give me $24,000 for mine and $29,000 for there C class. What do yeah think ?. Thanks

So you are trading a $24k E for a $29K C? Did you test drive the C? I would think it might be hard to go from the 350 to the 300, If I were trading in a E350 for a C, I would trade for a C350 at least.
I buy a car every couple years and I never downgrade, you might regret it. Going from a E to a C is a downgrade any way but If I were to do it I would at least get the C350. Good luck.

The C350 has been upgraded and is a nice car.

You want to trade an E350 for a C300? That is a downgrade because you are going from an E to a C. The C interior is crap and looks cheap. The ride is poor and seats are not comfy at all. Dont get the 6-speed it sucks also. The new C Class looks good but thats really it. Thats just my .02 cents after driving one last year.

To me they are pretty different cars. The C300 is quite a bit more nimble and a little more fuel efficient. The E350 is notably more luxurious.

You will be quite unhappy with the entry level C after driving the E. Can't see the financial side of your deal either.

Curious as to what your criteria for his projected unhappiness will be and financial assessment of the deal.

Because he is going from a mid level luxury sedan to a smaller, lighter, entry level vehicle with lots fewer features. The C is a nice car for what it is but does not compare to the E. The C is built to a much lower price point. I have driven them as a loaner from my dealership and quite frankly I find them uncomfortable for me as compared to my 05 E. Once a person becomes accustomed to a vehicle such as the E anything lower than that is not as satidfying to drive.

Please don't do it. The dealer has loaned me their base model C300 with 18" AMG rims. Dear god, I miss my C240, to say the least. Atleast it had a wood trim. Interior wasn't too pleasing, coming from a lower, older model C-Class.

You'll really feel the power difference, especially since the C you're lookin' to get is a 4matic. I'd say stick with the E-Class.

The performance difference between 4M cars and a similar RWD car is in fact insignificant if there is a difference at all. I do agree that he should not do this.

Yes - I had a loaner C300 when I had my routine maintenance done. It felt like rental car quality. I'm not comparing my E63 with the C300, rather the body, the interior amenities, and the E-class weight. But it felt like I was driving a low end entry-level car.

Get a loaded Subaru Legacy or an Audi something-or-other, if you're looking for AWD.

But to each his own. You asked for opinions - and you know what they say about them...

08 C Class, I want to belive that were buiot strong ang good, but as you know the issues in a new models will pup up in a few years. I have more confidence in 06 E, some problem from 03, 04 and I may be wrong from 05 were fixed(03- valero radiator, 04 SBC Brakes(there was a recall), and so on) so I would recomend to keep 06 E.

No comparison, E all the way, completely different class of cars.

I've had about 2K mileage of seat time in W204 C-Classes, worst piece of crap interior you'll ever find in a Benz, whenever I'd get into my W211 it honestly felt like getting into a Rolls Royce. Looks are subjective and I definitely prefer the classier look of the 211, as well, the C just can't match the refinement, quality, and ride of the E.

The E, especially 06, is a great car. The C has a good amount of fun factor, but the attraction is lost really quickly and that's when you notice the crappy interior and such.

This is exactly my assessment, as well. I have driven these extensively as loaners over this past year (several months) between 08's through 10's. They look cool, but the interior IS CHEAP CRAP, they feel significantly less refined than the E, and they are really uninspiring inside. The worst thing was when I sat in the new E class and felt like I was in the C! The interior is similar making me dislike the new E even more. I initially wanted to upgrade to the new E before I saw the new design. Now I think it will be the S. That new interior is sweet and the body finally looks good again.

Indeed. M-B is cutting the elegance and class in most of their interiors, save for the S (thankfully), the new E's interior itself is a step down from the W211's, it's basically like a fancier C's, but uses many of the same materials.
