How to guage the brake pads remaining using a micrometer? What is the safety limit? Would like some pictures if at all possible.
Thanks a lot
Actually I use the depth gauge on a vener caliper to meaure the final thickness. If it is anywhere close to the min I change the pads. I seldom run to the absolute minimum thickness. Normally there is 25% of the pad remaining when I change them. Many pads will have a groove cut in the center. When the groove is worn smooth 50 % of the pad is gone.
You can use a ruler and be crude enough to determine pad thickness.
Now for the rotor I use the caliper also using care to make sure I am not on the lip of a worn rotor to get accurate measurement. Remember if you use a caliper or verner you will not get runout unless you use dial indicators.
