I'm a newbie to the mb forums and a newbie to owning a benz. I just picked up a new 09 E550 amg sport package. I want to start doing some mods. I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for aftermarket airboxes, exhuast, ecu's upgrades, etc....

any help would be greatly appreciated.

To answer your questions; read MBWorld. All your questions have already been answered.

 

As long as your dealer won't flag the car while in warranty, check what Renntech and Kleemann have to offer for the 550. But you don't get a lot of bang for your $$$ with MBs, esp the n/a motors (there are some less expensive tuners, but buyer beware.) Minimal gains compared to high cost, imho.

Next year they'll come out with the TT motors and will be easier to mod.

yes check out renntech, kleemann for mods....check the W211 AMG board to see when the next time eurocharged or other outfit comes to your area. You can get a ecu tune..

the wife dropped on the hammer on the wheels. she doesnt want them since she also drives the car. she feels like she has to be extra careful.

Beautiful sled there. Does the AMG option-pkg come with the AMG racing pedals? If not, the 3 cost about $54 OEM at the dealer. And, you can also get a painted E63 lip spoiler for under $400 at a couple of different vendors (and easy to DIY install).

Mod wise, I'd go with a performance chip and maybe an exhaust, but probably the later won't fly with the spouse. The car is really fast as it is. The chip will mostly help with throttle response and power band. I see no reason to really change out your airbox. The 07+ E's with the new (well soon to be old) engines come with a better airbox and intake system than the M112/113 engines. You probably will gain almost nothing with having to drop a lot of money. The ONLY really good airbox I heard about was by renntech for the 320 3.2L V6 engines, but it was pricey and they were pretty hard to find. Also, I haven't seen any pulley's on the market for these engines either since evosport made for the M112/113 engines.

Oh, I almost forgot, buy clear side markers or blacked out ones. You'll love them and won't cost you much at all.

damn you guys, I checked out kleemann. I should really consider selling this beaut for a AMG car. I wonder how much my car is worth...I should put a feeler out in classifieds.

yeah man, I'm nuts. If I were at the dealership alone I would have come home with an AMG, but I was trying to be "somewhat" practical. damn it...I screwed myself.

 

Awesome car! I really like the color.

Since the car is still practically new (engine is hardly even broken in), I would probably stick to cosmetic mods for the time being. You should look into finishing off the E63 kit. Start off with the trunk spoiler, then probably the rear bumper and exhaust. Another worthwhile mod is the Euro COMAND, bluetooth phone, and navigation. As another member mentioned, it would be a shame to have your car's warranty flagged so early for engine modifications.

 

Yeah, I made the same mistake a year ago. I thought I'd be practical and so I ended up with an E350 (after years of owning performance cars.) Told myself I really didn't need a big fat 6.2 liter V8.

Sold the E350 in May of this year to a relative of mine and picked up a new leftover 2009 E63 AMG. Big discounts on the leftover E63s.

Now I'm a happy camper.

A European COMAND is basically a CD\stereo headunit that is able to play DVDs. The reason why it is a popular mod, is because of the additional features it has over the US COMAND. One feature is the ability to play video DVDs and RDS. Since this COMAND is able to play dual layer DVD's, you can also place almost 8gb of MP3's on one disc.

Miwung, you have the 2009 HDD COMAND that allows for DVD audio files and video playback. That pic above is the older COMAND system, anyway.

You just can't playback video DVD while in motion, only audio DVD. But it's even better than the 2010 W212 system since the W212 cars won't allow for address input with Nav while in motion. The Euro version allows for DVD video playback while in motion.
