w211 front grill
has anybody put a front grill on that is not stock, with the mercedes logo star on it? if so post pictures so i can see, and where is a reliable place to find the grill?
THANKS!!
THANKS!!
most of those grills are from ebay and the ones i have seen on the specialty benz sites are the same grills just 4 times more money lol.
your car looks black in that pic so the best grill in my opinion is a stock painted grill.
i painted mine black and think thats about the best look.
when i got it 100% stock
chrome stock grill

black grill.
dont mind the dirt it was raining

Do you want an all black grill with a silver star (So i looks like it's floating)? And you have a black car? Havn't seen it on an E, but, if my memory serves me correctly, I believe there are some pics of that look in the SL forum here at mbworld
Buckeye's grill wouldn't fit on your car; he's done the conversion

They have similar grills for 03-06 bumpers too. Just make sure you double check which version it is before you buy it.
I have one sitting in the garage right now. The prominence of the mercedes star in the grill was a bit too much for my tastes, so I switched it back to the stock grill. I was thinking of painting the whole grill black though to maybe tone it down a bit and make it more subdued. I will post pics if I do.

IMO nothing ruins the look of a 211 more than a Star grille, takes it from a $50+K car to something that looks more appropriate as a $20somethingK car. Just doesn't fit the vibe and theme of the styling, and gives it a "tacky" look IMO.
I don't like that one in the last pic posted either. IMO, just keep it stock, or if you're wanting to give it some kind of unique twist, I'd think about painting it a black or something.
I was trying to see if I could find any unique twists on the OEM luxury grille myself a while ago, to see if there were ANY non-stock, yet OEM appearing luxury grilles (with a unique subtle twist or something), and there's nothing, either gotta go with a Star grille, or keep it stock and play with paint options, if you're looking to change it up.

Below is a pic of my E500 before the front conversion with that same grille. My vehicle is also black, so you can get an idea of what it looks like WITHOUT the hood star.

yeah i mean i wanted to change it up and see what options i had. so ill probably just leave it alone or paint it black or somethin. Chicago is your 500 a 03-06, if so did you do the facelift to it?
If you go with the 3 slot big star grill, change your hood badge to a flat badge style... 2 MB Stars just doesn't look right.. I think the big star grills give the E class a sportier look that the stock "grand-fathery" E class grills... I bought a 4 slot chrome and black grill for my E500 and it looked nice for about a month, then it started to disintegrate because it was cheap plastic... Then I drove through some Mag Chlor on the highway during a snow storm and the chrome corroded... I'm looking for a replacement for this Spring...

I just converted to this: https://mbworld.org/forums/4558564-post19.html
The grill is from myroadster.net (Gerry is great to work with). The quality is better than those found on Ebay.
The hood badge is from DFWDude (White Star). Outstanding quality and a direct fit for the standing star.
I think it makes the car look better than the stodgy, factory grill and standing star. It does not (IMO) cheapen the look at all. In fact, the $100K+ SL's have this look.

I don't understand the "stodgy" term for the classic and clean/classy upright grille and star.
IMO that grille posted looks absolutely horribly matched on that car, and definitely brings it down to a lower-scale level. Not to mention, off-proportioned, forced on Star grilles like that always make Benz Sedans look dated to me.
$100K SL's do have that grille, and there is nothing wrong with the Star grille *when M-B proportions the grille to be appropriated to it*. The E-Class looks very awkward with that grille because M-B in no way intended for a Star grille to fit rightfully in there. That's why it sticks out like a sore thumb and detracts from the look of the rest of the car. If you look at properly designed Star grille openings, they aren't as tall as the classic grille openings of the Luxury grilles, and they are usually wider as well.
Oh well, to each their own! Lol.

I appreciate that perspective. I have had several 320/350's both E and S and they all were fitted with the stock grill and star. It is the classic MB look.
When I saw the look of the replacement grill, I thought that I would try a different look. I've had it on for a few months now and have received quite a few compliments about the look. Even folks at my dealership commented positively.
I'm not saying it is the be all, end all. However, I do like the look. I especially like the lack of the pretentious standing star. I know that is "classic Mercedes Benz". But, I never was fond of it. I much prefer the hood badge. And, the White Star badge is a throwback to the days when Mercedes built classic cars.
Again, I can appreciate your perspective. However, it's just a car. I'm having some fun with it
It's not like I repainted a vintage Steinway Grand piano!

Word to that. Enjoy it man! Good thing about the grille is you can always easily go back and forth and play around with the looks when you get tired of one or another.
Star grill look cheap?
I think Mercedes might feel the STAR insignia does not look cheap since the CLS has it and sell for 50% more than the E350, just a thought. Here is what MB offers as OEM.
