Two possible problems if you hear static/crackling without rear defroster on may be audio gateway (AGW) ground connection, software, or AGW needs replacement. If heard only with rear defroster on rear window needs replacement. Both may qualify for a goodwill repair since MB modified parts to correct the matter PM your email address and I will forward relevant documentation.

W211 stereo problem

Thanks very much fo that info, great help. Yes its a static noise that comes and goes without the rear heated screen switch on. It also makes the stereo switch itself on and off.
You mentioned the "AGW" Is this a part that can be changed and if so where is it located or could you point me in the right direction to resolve the problem?? Thanks again, paul@psimpson2.orangehome.co.uk

I'm having a similar problem and its directly related to the temperature. as the car warms up, we get speakers coming on. It sounds like the amp. The AWG- is that the amp? could my problem be the AWG?

AGW is the "Audio Gate Way". Early models overheated and caused static & cut outs. There have also been numerous audio software updates. I had these problems in my '04, which were resolved by the dealer somewhat early on.

2003 E320 Audio Amplifier

Thanks - The head unit was replaced a few years ago just prior to warrenty running out. They did all the software upgrades etc. I've had it to the dealership recently for troubleshooting- they replaced the bracket first according to tech procedure thinking maybe it was a grounding issue. Then they recommended replacing the amp for $1700 (parts and labor). At this point i'm in search for a used amp. Seeing if there is anything out there on the forum.

I've tried the grounding of the bracket to the body and still had no joy. Phoned a few Mercedes used spare breaker yards and they havent got any in stock and said its a commonly asked for part due to the fault.
Has anyone out there got a ' Becker QO4 audio gateway, part no A211 827 1642, model no BE 6030 ?? Thanks for the related input.

Hey there konistiger....would you mind sending me the documentation about the E320 AGW problem fix? My stereo has started to turn itself off at random....very annoying.

I'm guessing from the thread that I need an update...OR a new AGW. I'm assuming this gateway is something separate from the general gateway that the car has (for the engine, etc)?

I get the static when the rear defroster is on, the fix is a whole new back window??

Wow! How do I go about getting the 'goodwill repair'?

The grid can be repaired. Its never as thin a line as the factory lines. Feel the glass after the defroster has been on for a bit. Look for a cool spot, or a place that has mist on it on a dewey morning after the Def has been on for a bit.

I had the problem on a Caddy in the early 2000's, I made them replace the window under warranty.

2007 E350 Speaker problem

I am a new owner of a 07 E350, and I am having an intermittent sproblem with what sounds like my dash mounted center channel speaker. It will sound slightly distorted at times; it doesn't matter the source (Sat, AM, FM CD), and it occurs at different times.

Has anyone seen this? What could be the problem? Help!

Thanks,
