checking motor oil 2005 e55
thx karl
If you have an owners manusl, check there for the procedure, if not, play around with the steering wheel buttons on the horn pad. You will find all kinds of menus and eventually a screen that says "checking oil level". Search the forum for better instructions. Engine must be off and at rest for a few minutes to drain oil back into the pan.
As for the tranny oil. Everyone has an opinion. Some MY say the fluid is "permanent". Consensus here appears to be around 40,000 miles and then either "never again" or whatever suits you. The 5 speed tranny has a tamper indicating cap on the fill tube and must be replaced (cheap) when checking the level with a dipstick tool (aftermarket or M-B accessory part). The torque converter retains about 1/2 the fluid so DIY change will only remove about 1/2 fluid. The dealer can get all of it out (9 liters?). As for the 7 speed, it is not user serviceable and has no topside filler tube. You will learn that the fluids for these cars are pretty pricey. Oil (Mobil 0-40 Eur0spec) At Wally is anout $6.50 / qt and it takes 8.5 quarts with a $15 FLEECE filter that Wally won't have. The tranny oil is about $16/ liter.
Good Luck with your new ride.
