E280 7g Transmission Failure

My car (E280, Year 2006, Kuwait)transmission is completely damaged ( oil pump, converter and body) suddenly without any sign (Metallic noise or jerking or whining noise) although the car is serviced at the authorized dealer. The car is 115,000 kilometers and 3 years & 9 months old. The first Transmission oil change was at 60,000 kilometers are per Mercedes recommendation. The car suddenly was without power while driving at 90 Km/hr showing message of reduced power. I managed to stop the car and try to run again without success. The car engine started after 3 minutes but the gear did not work at any position as if the car has no gear. The authorized dealer advised that the gear oil pump is out of order and caused damages to the converter and transmission body an it is better to completely fix new transmission.

I understand that this is due to Manufacturer defects. Any MB owner is aware of manufacturer defects and problems experienced in 7G transmission of Mercedes E280 (year 2006) that the Mercedes had fixed until 2008/2009.

Is this failure repairable under GOOD WILL warranty?

Has anyone experienced the same problem.

Regards,

Maher Taha

I've seen photos from one 7G-tronic where obviously the oil pump failed which then seemed to kill the tranny. It should be rare but not impossible. You don't seem to come from the US (you could indicate your location at your profile), the good will rules, or interpretation are different at different places.

Since the car is only 3 years old, is it still under the manf warranty?

I can see you are from the US without looking at your profile. A MY2006 car usually means a 2006 build date, the car can be anything between a bit more than 3 years old to a bit more than 4 years old. In any case the typical (minimum) warranty period for cars in Europe is 2 years (not long ago it used to be one year only in several countries).

I'm not sure where this car is from but I assume a 280 has not been sold in the US, or has it been available?

Your failure is extremely rare. I have not heard of a similar failure here. I have owned 4 MB's with this same transmission and none have ever presented a problem of any sort. Perhaps the MB Dealer at your location can get you a "good will" repair.
