new battery cost

Just out of curiousity I am wondering what you have paid for a new main battery for your car lately. After two weeks of intermittent low battery warning messages, my car failed in a parking lot. While the car started, every message in the book came on and the power steering was off too. I steered the car to a local gas station that I have done business with and they replaced the battery for a mere $258 with labor taking it to $310. I had no alternative as it was Sunday morning and I needed the car. Of course the alternative would have been to do something when the warning first occured but...

well i went to the dealer to get some wiper blades and when i was there i asked about the battery and the the parts counter guy told me they run about 140 or so.
i know some dealers try to charge a lot more for there parts but if you get lucky and make a friend that could make a big difference.
he also told me if my battery dies to call the road side assistance and they will bring me a new battery and install it and i would just have to pay for the battery.

Had you bought the battery from your dealer, they would have come to your house and installed it for free. You were severely ripped off by your "gas station."

Correct. MB has lifetime roadservice and battery install.

I would check the battery they installed. Make sure it is AGM OEM quality. If it is conventional lead acid I would have it removed due to being incorrect for the car and improperely vented could be dangerous and damaging to the car.

I bought my AGM European direct replacement (matching MB specs) from Carquest for about $198 + tax and did the install. I had to wait 5 days for it to arrive. It was identical in shape, size, weight, capacity and with the vent holes on the case to the OEM battery. I did research on the OEM battery from a factory mark I found on my OEM. The CQ battery from what I have found was made in the same factory and I suspect is a MB battery without the MB label.

I got the original battery from stealer for $288 +tax - I tried other OEM battery from Advance Auto Parts but it wasn't putting out enough amperage (though it had a higher CCA) so I just went ahead bought the MB battery and installed it myself- been a happy camper!

If you call Roadside Assistance, you pay only for the battery. There is no charge for labor to install as there is if you go to the dealership to get one... and they come to you!

I just replaced the trunk battery on my E500. I bought a Duralast Platinum H8-AGM. Its a perfect fit, has the vents and its AGM. $155.00 at AutoZone.

That's a good battery, manufactured by Johnson Controls.

So how much does Road Side charge for the battery? is that a national rate? Will they give you a quote when you call and you need one? I hope they don't charge you by the zip code when you call, if you know what I mean...

Also, tell them when they arrive to check the charging system to be sure it is a bad battery and not anything else.

I though AGM batteries were sealed and therefore had no venting. Is that not correct?
