Where is the Voltage Regulator ?

I wanna try this out before replacing the alternator, anybody knows where to find the voltage regulator ? Is it replaceable ?

https://www.mbpartsexpress.com/merce...***-parts.html

Its $43 but I always thought is a built in type...

I always thought that now a days, voltage regulators are an integral part of the alternator and not a separate, replaceable component. Actually, MB had a TSB some time ago for earlier 211's which had VR problems (depending on who made the alternator) and the alternator needed replacement. If you know someone who has an oscilloscope or a graphing multimeter, you can check the charging voltage as well as the diode bridge (which "rectifies" the alternator's AC output into pulsing DC).

Regards,
paul...

Should be available separately for an E350:

Voltage regulator has been mounted on back of BOSCH alternators for decades.

DB,

Thanks for the correction -- I'm actually out of touch with the 350/550 models and I'm going to start being silent when it comes to giving advice. Bad info is worse than no info!

I assume your are not saying that seriously. Your first reply was formulated to be speculative, strictly speaking the comment had no mistakes. The forum needs your expertise, also on 350/550 related issues.

I hope members understand when I'm posting guidance based on my best understanding when things actually appear to be different because I'm often too lazy to add "as far as I know".
