Airmatic Question???

I have a 2007 E550 with Airmatic. I just lowered it and put some 20" wheels on but I think it is to low for my wife to drive. I can lift it by pressing the lift button when she drives it but as soon as you hit 75+mph it will lower again.

My question is, is it possible to disable the vehicle lowering at 75+mph?

Thanks

I honestly have to admit...I have damaged my cars more than she has even though I am more worried about her driving them.

Yup, thats why I said "no" .. it lowers the car, reduces drag and improves stability.

What kind of freeway is he driving on at 75 that the lowering of the car could cause damage?

hey bud

Im in the same boat, 20s and a wife that drives it just as much as me. On top of that my rims have stretched rubber so she has to watch parking And yeah i think i might have done the first scratch so far from the two of us. Most of the places she is under the 60mile limit so the car stays high, but if you really need to watch it then you need something electronic that will be switchable on the fly. I think you can get an elm to do that but not cheap. around 1200-1500 from what i have read on here. I am in NZ so have no idea where to help you look Keep Searching

Not worried about the freeway damaging the car. Its when she is on the freeway and goes over 75+ mph and then exits and doesn't push the raise button.

Probably going to have to buy the ELM but didn't really want to spend that type of money right now.

How is the car lowered? If with links, simply adjust them. If with SDS, you're out of luck.

You can find ELMs in the classifieds for 600-700.

It's hard to keep this car under 75+mph on the freeway...its to damn smooth!!!

well, My E550 raises itself after I exit.

The next time you exit the freeway and are at a red light (if its on the off ramp for example), you'll see the car raise itself. It will go back to the height it was at before you got to freeway speeds.

If, on the fly adjust-ability is what you seek, the ELM is going to be your best bet. Just make sure to get the newer one with the remote, or if you get the older one, extend the wiring so that you can mount it in your center console. Like I did.

Renntech ELM v2 or v3 with remote control would be top choice.

I seen them go for used $700-$1000 depending on the model. Plus the remote is another couple hundred.

You need to look at your hood or trunk versus some point of reference. The difference between regular height and lowered height is less than 1" I think so its not something dramatic. Also, I think if you've already lowered your car, on the freeway, it won't lower past the point it would have normally lowered .. I'm not 100% on this last part.
