Crank position sensor problem

Hi all, 04 E-320 4-Matic died while driving checked codes had a crank position sensor code. let it sit 2 hours and it started, died later that day...same code. I replaced the sensor, it no longer dies however if it is revved above 4k it seems to go into some sort of limp home mode it put up 3 codes, all are misfire detected on different cylinders. Does the new sensor have to be set up by the dealer? any help would be great thanks.

I still suspect the cps. Defective new? connector? Hate to say it but you might have to replace it again. If the hall effect sensor doesn't deliver the pulse to the computer the engine will misfire. I suspect you bought a defective cps.

Well you were right! the new sensor from Olympus auto parts was defective. at the time the only one they had in stock was made by Hamburg Technic, I tried 2 of them, the first one caused the erratic behavior the second was actually a little too long and came into contact with the flywheel. So I finally purchased the OE Bosch one and it works perfectly. Lesson learned....spend a little more, go crazy a little less.
