Advice on brake

I have a 2007 E350 Sports. I brought my car to SF Benz today for service A and my advisor called and told me that my front brake pads and rotors need to be changed (front pads at 3mm and rear pads at 8mm) but they were changed by Autobahn less than a year ago for about 9k miles (it was at about 20k miles then and 29k miles now). my miles are almost all city miles. Is it possible?!

Yes, if your/someone's left foot rests/exercises the brake lights while driving.

Are you sure? Did they show you the worn parts?

Possible but unlikely. Are you certain they were changed at 20K?? Are you a driver thats pretty tough on brakes?? My W211 recently traded on a W212 had 40K miles and the original brakes with lots remaining. Problem you will have is proving the brakes were changed. Ask to see the old pads and measure them yourself. This is one reason not to go to 2 different dealers. One of them could be a bad apple but you don't know which one.

Thank you all for your replies.

Yes, I called autobahn and they have the records shows that was at 20k.
No, I am not tough on brakes.

sosh - are your miles all freeways?

I didn't have SF Benz change them. I'll bring it back to Autobahn and will ask for the old pads back. I thought they are all dealerships, It's not worth to cheat on that.

Re freeways, No the majority of miles on the E are city driving with only a rare road trip. Most of our road trips are in my ML550. One of the 2 dealerships is, to be kind, incorrect.

There are lots of hills in SF. It's not unusual for the front pads to last only 10k mi considering they're mostly city miles w/ lots of stop and go. My last front pads only lasted 21k mi, doing 50% city and 50% hwy. The front rotors can easily last two sets of pads. If you replaced the rotors last time, I'm pretty sure you don't need to replace the rotors this time. The dealers always want to replace the pads and the rotors at the same time.

I will have Autobahn replace the pads only this time then. It saves me more than $300!

Thanks, guys!

Discs are not optional. If they are worn to or past the minimum thickness they must be replaced. If they are very close it pays to replace them with the pads to avoid a duplicate labor charge in a short while. Not certain what the min thickness is.
