Ski Pass Through

My 05' E320 was rearended and is currently on the rack at the body shop. My car did not come with the folding rear seat or the ski pass through and I was thinking about having the body shop make a ski pass through behind the folding armrest while the trunk is taken apart. It looks like you just need to cut a rectangular hole in the metal behind the back seat and possibly cut some plastic. I don't want to compromise integrity. Does anyone know if the cars that came with this option have any reinforcements to account for the hole in the sheet metal behind the seat? Has anyone done this before?

I had the same idea but when I got face to face with the trunk separation I realized that it is part of the body structure. I also looked it up on EPC which confirmed it so I gave up sawing a hole through it. I am carrying the skis on an MB rack on top and a few times a year I have to put up with the noise.
