Oil Tube vs. Transmission Tube on 2003 E500
Had read some threads on this issue seems that there were conflicting accounts and just wanted to clarify what is on my 2003 E500 that may assist someone else in changing oil from the topside. Both tubes are located on the "passenger side" along side the firewall. The oil tube can be seen without removal of the engine air filter cannisters and has a black cap that just pulls off (no dipstick). To access the transmission tube it is in the close proximity of the oil tube just a little to the right and up a litle and you really need to remove the engine air filters to see it. In addition, the transmission tube has a black cap also, but and has the writing that saids "MB workshop only". Hope this helps

correct.
The newer models have no trans tube,you need to drain and fill it from the bottom with a special connection to the transmission vent tube on the pan.
Best find an indie shop or pm me for a guy in your neck of the woods.

Indianapolis - Have been impressed with Autohaus
Bloomington - Quality Imports Service (probably one of the best mechanics in this area if not the best)
Both are somewhat pricey, however, cheaper than dealer
