So many W211's ...
Yesterday, I saw more W211's in a one place than I have ever seen thus far ...
At the Singapore Island Country Club car park, I counted 7 brand new E's!! They were mostly E240 but a couple of E320. That's more than I've ever seen even at any dealer here! Most dealers in Melbourne have only 1 or 2 demonstration E's at the moment, with the demand being so strong and the waiting list so long ...
Craigng,
Whey so few E's there? What do they sell for? (Ones like we get 320-500). Can you order one and get it pretty quick? Just curious as to how things are down there.
They are starting to come on stream ... but it only landed here in September 2002 to start with ...
My car was ordered in October 2002, for delivery March 2003. My dealer tells me that if you put an order in today, you can probably expect to take delivery at the end of this year! The problem lies in the fact that Australia is a pretty small market in the scheme of things!
Prices - my E320 costs about $140K (about US$80K); E500 costs about $170K (about US$100K).
Just curious about the economy.
The Australian government puts high import taxes on things over here to promote the local economy and in this case to help the local car manufactuers.
Because we are a relatively small country, a lot of things are imported and cost more, especially luxury goods made overseas.
Which ever way you cut it, you have to be doing pretty well to be buying an E, S, CLK, SLK, CL or SL over here as they will all cost you over AUS $100,000.

An E500 Avante guard would cost around AUS $165-170,000.
Petrol depending on the city, time of week, and octane level varies but I find I am paying around AUS$ 90 cents to a dollar a litre.

an E500 is over $200,000 US....mainly due to taxes and stuff by the government.
