19's vs 20's

I shredded a tire this weekend after running over something driving to the airport at 5 in the morning...awesome! Well, since I was thinking about upgrading my wheels and tires anyway, this is my opportunity.

I have a '07 E350 Sport. I am going to drop my car, probably 1-1.5 inches. I don't want to slam it, just give it a nice clean lowered look. Most cars I see with 20's have side shirts or AMG bumpers that give the car an overall lower stance. My questions is if I get 20's on an E350 Sport, will the car look like it's sitting too high? Even with lower it, I'm worried that the car will appear too high, like an optical illusion. Should I stick with 19's just to be safe? What do you guys think? Thx!

stick with 19's and u can still lower the car. With 19's you can get a bigger profile tire so you don't lose that much comfort in the ride quality

I recently had 20x8.5 & 20x10 wheels installed with 245/30/20 & 285/25/20 with Toyo T1R Tires...smooth ride, nothing too crazy with an Eibach Drop....looks ****!!

I don't think the 20's would look too high, especially with the 1 inch or more drop. Check out mine as a reference (and I am not dropped).

Also on the 19's vs 20's thing, I would definately think about what type of wheel you are going to buy; 3-piece 20's I definately stress the potholes a lot, you probably wouldn't worry on a monoblock 20.

Performance wise, the 20's will make your car seem a tad slower, but increase the handling. That is the MAIN reason I went with 20's and they were amazing on the track. You will also feel the road more, but it can still be smooth if your roads are nice. My only regret is I should have gone with 20x10.5 in the rear.

Everyone's tastes are different. I think 20s with lips look great on the 211. 19s with no lips also looks good. Visually, these look proportionally the same (to me). If you plan to drop, go with either size you like. Although I do agree that 19s will afford a bit more rubber, I do not find 20s that harsh, especially with the Airmatic system.

There was a great article on last month's Car and Driver that shows the degradation in gas mileage, performance and ride quality on different + (plus) applications. The only positive is grip and looks. I would stick to 19's

tashakes... you hit the nail on the head.

I have wheels off a CLS AMG on mine... plus I have the full air suspension all the way around...(E500) ... I think that I am on the verge of having to much tire for the suspension setup ...18s staggered 8.5 wide front and 9.5 back ... putting 20s will definitely degrade the performance (but not one guy on here will admit that to the forum)

The 19" vs. 20" comparo is going to be all about personal taste.

All the 20" guys are going to tell you how "****" their whip looks with the dubs!

The 19" cats like myself, will tell you anything larger than 19" and you will have

to start saying things like "Whip and ****" Got it Dawg?

P.S - Just having a little fun. I don't want any of you 20"ers coming after me with your brass knuckles.

Thanks everyone for your replies and opinions....very helpful!

I think I am going to stick with 19s. IMHO, I think it just fits me better.

What do you guys think about these, look and price?

True. I didn't notice any degradation of gas mileage, but I did notice ride quality difference, roads are a little rougher. I have 20X9 and 20X10.5 rears respectively on my CLS.

One thing, I am not sure of but asked questions is the possibility of using 35 series front and 30 series rear for improved ride quality opposed to the 30F/25R I have now. Something I may need to ask Luke@Tirerack.

Those wheel offsets are fine, however, the tire sizes aren't optimal.

The fronts should be 245/35/19 not 255 and the rears should be a 275/30/19.
I think the 285's with that offset might rub and the fact that they are a 35 profile, I'm almost positive they will rub, not to mention your speedometer will be off along with the odometer.
