I just checked to see how difficult it would be to change the bulbs in the parking and high beam lights. There is a hell of a lot of stuff in the way and I am not sure how you would get to the back of the unit to change the bulb.

Any simple instructions as to how to do this?

I just "wiggled" my hand in there and "got it done". The hard part is getting your hand in... once there, it's easy. All bulbs are removed by turning the bulb housing counter clockwise about a 1/4 of the turn. So unless your hand is Super Large, it's a none issue. Mark

PS: If you remove the wire socket first that plugs into the back of the bulb housing, it will be easier.

This may be a dumb question but- I want all my lights to "match" the xenons. Are the High Beams the oval light in the center part of the sheetmetal between the main light and the grill?

This is the H7 I see referred to? What all needs to be replaced ?

Is all I replace that bulb and the fog lamp? If I go to a "White" or "Blueish" fog lamp will it nullify the functionality of the fog lamp as intended?

Yes, the HiBeam is th one in the center.... below it is the parking lamp.

And yes, replace the HI Beam bulb with the H7 PIAA XtremeWhite and the Park bulb with the 19172 wedge bulb Xtreme White.

The Fog lamp I let alone.

Just removed the PIAA 19172 bulbs-it looked "too Blue" and it definitely does not match, might just be the pair I got though. Going to get another set and see if there is a difference. I also heard the the PIAA #19169 is much better match.

I am sure glad I put off changing my bulbs..procratinated as usual.:p I have the replacement car comming and I would have had to put the old ones back in and then reinstall them in the new car. Sometimes it pays to procrastinate.

Can someone confirm the part number and type for the fog lights? I've changed the side lights for Xtreme whites which look great, just need to do the fog lights now but wanted to check the part number. Thanks!

Foglights

I changed the bulbs in my foglights to match my bi-xenon lights (running, parking and high beam). The part number for my foglights is H11 and I got it from www.d2technik.com

PIAA doesn't make a H11 bulb.

If you want to change fog light bulbs, you'll have to do what Josseesq recommends above. Mark

I just look in the on-line owners manual, and that says H1 55W. Is that the same thing? I see PIAA list H1 but not H11? I don't want to order the wrong bulbs at that price.

Richard,

All I can tell you is that when d2technik installed my foglight bulbs, they match perfectly with the other bulbs I have installed. MKASSB is right when he said PIAA does not make the H11 bulb, that's why I had to get the bulbs from d2technik.com. The PIAA bulbs I did get are:

H7 (high-beams)

19169 (? I think for the parking lights)--you can look at my previous post on the exact part number.

D2technik charged me only $40 including installation for the H11 bulbs. If I have time I'll take a picture of the front end of my car with all the lights on so everyone can see the color.

H11 Fog Light Bulbs

d2technik.com is not up and running. Does anyone know of an alternate source for the H11 bulbs?

The D2technik.com website is currently being upgraded; however, you may contact them directly at 626.282.2727 and ask for either Dave or Collins.

Thanks, I had a look at the bulb, i didn't realise till I read this thread how easy it is to get the bulb out, anyway like you say its H11.

I can't find anywhere in the UK that sells an HID look H11, so I'll try d2technik.com and see if they'll ship over here.

2003 E 500 - Full option
Thumbs down

I own one of the very first E 500 in France (delivered end April 2002).

I noticed that I had only Xenon in low beam.

After enquiry at MB, it looks that the very first models have only simple Xenon (it was sold as bi-Xenon on evry documentation...).

No retrofit looks possible.

I am waiting a "commercial" solutaion from MB.

By a very simple test.

You park your car in front of a wall.

You switch the lights from low to high beam.

In my case, you notice celarly that the Xenon remain in low beam whatever you do. But the other conventional lights are perfectly switching on or off.

Thanks. I'll check mine out. When was yours built? Mine was August 2002 so was quite an early model.

As I understood it the Xenon lights don't themselves switch to high/low, but a cover that is over the lights when in low beam moves when you switch to high beam.

Mine is nearly a prototype.

In France, we cannot say precisely when the car was built.

If I refer to the EU homologation sheet of my car is end Nov 01...

The car was delivered end 04/02 from MB France preliminary stock.

Thats true that the xenon light should be equiped of a kind of shutter.

Do not worry, I seem to be one of the very few affected by this problem.
