Service schedule C at 10,000 miles?

My FSS has been warning me that it'll need service (and a C service at that) for about 500 miles. I'm pretty skeptical that it's based on actual oil condition and just on miles. It popped up the Service Due message at 10K to the tenth.

But schedule C at 10,000 miles??? WTF?

Admittedly, based on some of your posts, my dealer's got good prices ($250 for A, $350-370 for C), but why would I need all the C stuff for a brand new car with 10K miles on it? I would argue that if I need all that, it wasn't set up properly!!

This car isn't abused, isn't raced and is only driven with a normal mix of highway and city driving.

Any ideas or suggestions on why it might be telling me to spend all kinds of extra money for service that should be due for some time to come yet?

Thanks.

MY09 uses MBMS not FSS relying on fixed 1 year/10000 mile (whichever comes first) intervals for oil change plus work based on mileage accrued, see service sheet.

OK... makes a little more sense. But why is the car telling me to get a Schedule C servivce, then?

Try this to call up individual service items due:

Switch ignition on (position one)
Outside temperature display
Press the trip odometer reset knob three times consecutively (voltage display appears)
Select the Service menu with the + or – button
Service indicator displays items (1 – 14)
Press the menu systems button until the outside temperature display appears

Not sure if you bough the car new or not, but most dealers do forget to reset the sevice indicator, really depending on how long the car has been sitting in the dealers lot. But still schedule C should be way down the road. Just have the dealer reset it and correct to what it should be. That I know they can do.

Yes, bought it new, at the end of the model year (Sept of last year).

If it's just an oil change and inspection, I'll probably do it myself since I like doing that kind of stuff.

konig - I haven't had the chance to check the display yet, but thanks for the info!

Update. I finally had the chance to sit down in the car and get into the system. Here is what it's telling me I need to have done:

Items
US Service 3
US Service 9
US Service 12
US Service 14

Additional Work
US Service 2
US Service 3
US Service 5
US Service 8
US Service 9
US Service 10
US Service 16
US Service 20
US Service 12

Can anyone decode these Service codes?

I know one of them is the 10K oil/filter change and, of course, the attendant inspections that go along with that.

I'm beginning to suspect one of them is something to do with the brakes, since they've started to squeal pretty loudly. But, they're covered by the 12mo/12K mile warranty, so no biggie there.

(So you don't have to read all the posts: 2009 E320 Bluetec, bought new, now with about 10,500 miles)

You have a matter of recommended and required services. Tech should/will adhere to service sheet requirements rather than MBMS recommendations. At roughly 10000 miles engine oil/filter change together with various checks (i.e.: fluid levels, etc.) are required so this is all that should be performed. It is possible that dealer did not reset MBMS at delivery. Individual service items should list in your maintenance booklet.

OK, here's one for you. Called the dealer this AM to set up an appointment to have the brakes checked (the brake squeal) and asked about the Service C deal. He said I need to have the brake fluid flushed and replaced. At 10,000 miles... because the build date of the car was about a year before I got it, so it's 2 years old.

Now, I wonder if they changed out the oil before selling me the car, since it was one year old....
