E500 rear turn signal out

I searched the forums and could not find an answer to this seemingly benign question. If I have missed a previous discussion, I appologize in advance. Here is the issue.

I have a 2003 E500. Today a message popped up on the console that the left rear turn signal is out. I went to dealer and asked for a "rear turn signal bulb". The guy looked in his computer and said that I had to buy the whole assembly because my car has "fancy lights". Cost $75.

Does this sound right?

He is right, the light bulb itself cannot be replaced, the whole part that holds all the lights have to be replaced, but it is $32.00 @ parts.com, unless you have the LED lamps, then it will probably be more, but I am not sure how much.

Cheers

Correct, no bulbs that you replace replace the assembly. My e500 was rearended and both turn signals L/R failed and were replaced. The shop thought bulbs but had to wait for the assembly.
