CDI oil filter housing... stuck like a rock

Hey, what do you guys use to get the oil filter housing off on a CDI? Mine is stuck tight as hell and I don't want to break it.

Thanks.

There's a factory tool to remove the housing. It's like a big giant socket.

I was able to get a typical band type wrench in there. I went back to Autozone and they sell the removal tool Its a generic, 72mm (I think) cap tool. If you check the online tool source and get the right size you can get one at the autopart store.

Go with OEM. I went through four - that's right, 4! - of the aftermarket caps/wrenches/gadgets and broke one trying to get the cap off. No dice.

I eventually took the car to an Indy to get some other work done (ball joints) and asked them to replace the oil filter. When I asked how difficult it was for them to remove the cap, they told me it only took them 2 minutes - and did not charge me a dime for it.

It's amazing what having the right tools can do for you!

Surely you mean housing "cap," as there's no need to remove the entire filter housing.

Torque for this plastic part is 25 nm, which isn't much.

Yes the cap, and while 25nm is not much whomever torqued it down last did a number as I can't get the sucker off with my plebeian strap type wrenches.

Thanks to all on this thread, I'll see if I can a) find an acceptable metal wrench that will fit or b) just get the MB OEM one.

TIA

Where are you located? Maybe one of use will lend you the tool if you're close enough...

I have used that tool. I would consider that better than OEM filter wrench. It won't round the plastic. You can use it to tighten the filter also.

Don't shoot me, but I used a pair of channel lock grips. Scratched the nut top of the housing but worked fine and no damage to function.
