You're confusing the sub frame separation issues of the E46 3 series. The 5ers never had issues (other than sub frame bushing replacements on the E28 which was just an "early than usual" sort of replacement.)

btw, the E46 issues were settled (I still own a 330i): http://www.e46subframeclassactionsettlement.com/

I just returned from Laughlin, NV to Huntington Beach, CA (2007 E550) and averaged 27mpg. For those unfamiliar with the trip, it's around 4:30 hrs.

- And I was haulin the mail (cruise set to 80+ most of the way).

Disclaimer:
New tires (Sumitomo) all around. Don't know if that's a factor?

I routinely get 30.2 MPG on I95 between NY & DC. Of course I reset the trip compouter as soon as I enter the Turnpike & check it often on the 4.5 Hr trip. My speed on the Turnpike is 80-85 except as you approach Tolls. Ft Lauderdale to Orlando or even Palm Beach on the FL Turnpike is the same thing.

Looking into an 09 E550
Interesting, I wasn't all that concerned about FE because I also own a Ford Excursion and Jeep Wrangler, but the E550 with that kind of mileage sure will be a welcome addition.

Enough chatter already... When are you buying your E550?

Seriously, if you need anymore convincing, you really shouldn't buy it because no car is perfect, and then you'll just come here and b---h about it

Yeah, LOL.

His thread title was "a little weary" when he meant "leery." And now it's us that are getting a little weary of it all......

Don't worry (What was that? Weary??? :p) guys, I'm convinced that an E550 would be a pretty damn good vehicle for me. You all even drew me further away a from a BMW 5-Series.

Now it's just a matter of finding a car with the right price and options.

Consider getting a CPO'd from the dealer even if you're getting a 2009. It will be a few extra bucks but still cheaper than buying an ELW from the dealer later.

imho, the 2009 isn't only newer but as already mentioned here has a much better COMAND and Nav system than pre-2009 models.

Good luck and post pics when the deed is done.

Before choosing, make sure you go over to the BMW forums, and get their opinion too.

Honestly, I would get an E55 W211 with warranty if I were you. Either way - good luck!

Drove 145 miles all freeway yesterday, avg'd 71mph and 27.2mpg according to the trip computer.

FYI - I find the trip computer is off by +/- 1mpg when I do the actual calculation at the pump.
