Question Rear Brake Calipers

Just noticed the difference between the front and rear brake calipers. The front units are nicely finished with in a medium silver color and have the Mercedes name imprinted in white.

In contast, the rear units seem somewhat unfinished with a direct view to the brake pads, retaining clips, etc.

Is my car missing something (ie, a cover) or is this the normal brake setup?

thanks.

Hey - this is very interesting ...

My brake calipers (both front and back) and both uncovered and ugly. I could swear that the W211's I saw at the showroom before I ordered my car all had beautifully finished calipers with 'Mercedes-Benz' cover on them.

So what is standard on the car?? If the cover is optional, has anyone got them??

I have the "Nice" front in Med Silver/White Letters and standard rear. I believe this is the "norm". My car was "made" in mid/lat Jan and delivered to me Feb 28th. This is pure speculation, but maybe it's a "Sport" package item? Mark

Same here, my E500 has covers on the front but NOT on the rears. I guess MB was trying to save a few dollars, a bit disappointing.

Hi,

The E500 has the multi-pistons caliper in the front as standard feature regardless of sport pkg or not, the rear is standard brake. E320 has standard brakes all four corners, regardless of sport pkg. I think it is descriped in the specification. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks!

I believe the E320 and E500 have the same brakes, sport package or not. Having different brakes on each would not be financially smart for MB. The front brakes are 4 piston, with 2 pistons on each side of the rotor. They should come with the MB decal. The rear calipers are the sliding type (I believe 2 piston, both on the inside part (not on each side of the rotor). There is no "cover" for the rears.

After reading this thread, curiosity got the better of me and I checked my car. I have an E320 with Sports Package and did not see any MB cover on the front wheels. I do remember my wife make mention of those covers on an E at the dealership when we were shopping; I don't remember the model though.

Maybe the front covers are only on the E500 and not on the E320 models, as Dlau mentioned...

I tend to agree, mine (E500) has logos on front calipers only, but is the NON-sport version.
