ESP Malfunction

After being out of town for a week, I return home to have my 2004 E500 show me the ESP Malfunction. In addition, the blinkers do not work (but the flashing hazards do) nor the cruise control or any of the steering wheel buttons. Are there any remedies I can try before I go to the dealership and get my head ripped-off?

Thank You.

My ESP malfunction came up, the cruise control stopped working and my adaptive headlights are inoperable.

My research indicates that the steering angle sensor is bad. All these items will go out when the steering angle sensor fails.

The only other thing mentioned was low voltage on the battery. Apparently, low battery voltage will cause the steering angle sensor to not calibrate or reset casusing it to fail.

Do a search here. I've read something about turning the wheels from lock-lock to reset the esp but I don't know the details. Good luck hope this helps!

If the battery goes dead, or the voltage drops below around 8-9 volts, the steering angle sensor looses normalization. It does not indicate the sensor is faulty, just that it needs to be re-normalized by turning the wheel lock to lock as mentioned earlier.

However tcurrie72, I don't believe this is your issue. It sounds more as if you have a fault with your SCM (steering column control module) or the wiring to it. also make sure the fuse for the SCM is not blown, which is located at the interior fuse block(driver side dash)

So what does the steering angle sensor do anyways?

Whats the price on replacing that at the dealer?

Can't figure out by searching on this forum what the freak is turning the wheel lock to lock? I think Benzworld.org have less content but more reliable. Dunno if people actually know their stuff before posting.

Not to be a d%ck but have you bothered to google "steering angle sensor"? I did and now know what a steering angle sensor does. I recommend you do the same. The forums aren't the be all and all, there is other information out there.

I had the same issue a few months ago with the same symptoms that you are experiencing, and the dealer replaced the sensor free of charge.

Hmmmmm........

registered on MBWorld today, and you already have 19 IDENTICAL posts all linking to this same video that you "found" on the internet?

Looks more like a blatant attempt to drive traffic to your monetized YouTube video.
