Check Engine Light on Today

Was driving along in a speed trap area at 40 & noticed a "shudder"... almost like a bad transmission shift, & the Ck Eng Light came on. Car ran smooth enough...Went to the bank, shut down, went in made my deposit & came out. Tried to start the car with Keyless Go as always, & car would crank, time out and not start with keyless go. MBrace suggested I try to start with the key, so I did & after a long crank the car started. (I guess there's no crank "timing out" when you try to start with the key.)

Drove 3 miles over to Ft Lauderdale MB, noticed the drive felt like a "hunting transmission", not a smooth idle or acceleration. Told the SA what happened & they couldn't start it either until after a long crank with key. CEL still on. Got a C300 Loaner.

Good thing their Service Department is open 7 days... will report... Have a good weekend all.

My guess is the camshaft position sensor failure issue. Very common and inexpensive fix but irritating when it happens.

What kind of mileage is on the car now?

The last time mine came on was when BOTH batteries started to fail, but that shouldn't be the case for at least me on this one. How do you reset the code without a dealer incase it was gas issue?

Glad they got it figured out. At least the crank sensor is a cheap fix.

True!... but down here they Sservice 7 days a week... but there's no price competition as they're all owned by the same auto dealer group.

Yeah that pesky CPS again. It seems to be popping up on the forum with greater frequency lately. Definitely something to keep track of as we determine age-related reliability issues.

They just came out a few months ago with the "open on Sundays" thing. It's nice, but Autonation does have a stranglehold on SE Florida. My SA at MBSFL is Nicole. She's nice and has been a big help to me, but their prices are a little steep in my opinion. I have an indie on Oakland Park Blvd that I've been using for a while but I am out of warranty.

I'm getting off track..glad you found a good resolution to your problem.

Actually, Nicole is who took care of me, because the only other guy I saw once (I used to live on L.I.) was off that day, and after Nicole, I don't want anyone else to take care of me. She was really great, and I told her so and thanked her.

The "steep prices" occur where ther is no competition. It beats me why the very close together Miami & Ft Laud stores don't compete for business as separately owned stores would. One or the other would certainly increase their buisness... oh yeah. they don't have to.
