Transmission or What?

Hey Guys,

So I think my transmission is shot. When I put out of my driveway now it doesn't move if I kind of hit the pedal hard....it just stalls out and until the RPM drops it starts moving....I am pretty sure it is a trans problem. Any suggestions?!?!?! I am taking it to a speed shop today to maybe do a dianostic on it if they have the proper equipment.

Depending on the age of the car and the status of the warranty, consider either a transmission shop or the dealer. Some speed shops may not be familiar with the transmission in the car.

The dealer can access the ODB II port and tell what type of trouble you are having. To the best of my knowledge only the dealer can read those codes.

Good luck

What year? Model? Mileage?
If the indy shop does not have the latest MB diagnostic equipment/software, they can't read all of the transmission fault codes accurately. Go to the dealer for this problem.

Go to the dealer and get a second opinion.
No body would buy this kind of car w/ transmission problem unless you're almost giving it away.

Get a second opinion!
When was the last ATF change? What the code you quote means? You would be surprised what a transmission flush can do. I would not jump to any conclusions or expensive repairs before I am absolutely certain what the problem is.

I fully agree with Morde5. Regardless of what the manufacturer says (some say "lifetime" fluid for transmissions) the fluid should be flushed about every 30k miles.

I changed the ATF around 2000 miles ago. I went to a independent Mercedes shop and they said same thing that tranny is slipping between gears which is causing the codes to appear.

Code P2500 proper indicates the transmission has impermissible transmission ratio. P2501 indicates engine overreving has occurred. P2502 and P2503 refer to failing gear combo engagement. P251X codes refer to failures of the torque converter, and P2520 feedback through the transmission protection not maintained.

Now the under $4,000 quote indicates that no main component failure is suspected, so I suspect a basic cleanup, flush and torque or valve body component(s) would be replaced with the ancillary service hardware and fluid.

722.x transmissions apparently intimidate users, and by lack of time in the market some service points. As a vital component of the car, they deserve top notch attention and dedication, but they do not bite back if they are nursed right.

Good luck...

djrabbi,
I have a 2005 E55 AMG with 78k miles and now have an issue with my transmission. I slips into neutral and I hear a loud whine when accelerating towards 2,000 rpm and the car will not go above 3,000k rpms. I've been told it was the conductor plate. Did yours ever get resolved?

Would a used transmission also fix the issue? Someone said they would give it to me for 1,000 (has 65k miles)?

Ouch, before the tranny was pulled off, what kind of condition was the fluid?
