Need help with choosing tires

I'm getting my 19's next week but I'm having trouble choosing which tires to go with. The size I'm looking for are 245/35/19 in the front and 275/30/19 or 285/30/19 in the rears. I can go with the goodyear GS-D3's but they are a bit too noisy when I had them on my e430. What are some good tires with reduced road noise? Yokohama?? S03's?? Pirellis??

I had Bridgestone S-03's on my Audi and they were a great summer tire. I found them very quiet and the stuck like glue. Usually less money than Michelin's as well.

You should probably check out the forum for "Wheels, Tires, Suspension & Brakes". There is a lot of good info there on various tire options.

Had SO2s and SO3s on previous cars (996C2 and SLK32 AMG). They are excellent tires with great grip, however, this time around I was looking for less road noise.....someone suggested Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

I am quite satisfied with the reduced road noise and still lots of grip for the E500.

QUESTION FOR benggolf

I too am thinking about Michlin Pilot A/S. Which tires did your car come with? My 500 Sport came with Conti Touring tires. I had previously on my CLK55 Michilin Pilot Sports. The biggest negative of the touring tires is as the weather warms up they feel mushy and steering response is very slow. Inflating to 30f, 34r has helped. Have you noticed a marked improvement in steering response? Have you noticed if they tend to follow road irregularities and require steering correction as my Pilot Sports did? Any other characteristics you could contrast would be apprfeciated. Thanks

Question, what do you need to consider if you have the MB Tire Presure Monitoring option? Is this option "swapable" to the new wheels? This question sould like a new thread...... Mark

Hi E500! My car came with ContiSports Contact 2 (WR rated)which was a pleasant surprise since all of the units with Sports Package that arrived before mine came with just the ContiTouring CH95 (HR rated) tires.

Had the tires pumped up to 31/34PSI and drove on them for about 180 Kms before switching to Michilen Pilot Sports A/S because I needed 245/275 to fit the optional staggered Styling IV AMG wheels. Didn't really experience the mushy and slow steering response you mentioned; sorry, I was observing break-in procedures. The Michelin Pilot Sports A/S are definitely a bit quieter and rides great. I would recommend them, if you are planning to replacing the Conti CH95 on your car.

Suggest you visit the Tire Rack website and do a tire comparison.
Good luck.

I'm running Pirelli P7000. It is fairly noisy, but I guess I'm used to it because I had the same brand of tires on my 528i. However, the performance/grip is great wet or dry.

Benggolf,

I notice that you are located in Vancouver. Are you going to drive the Pilot Sport A/S's in winter, or are you going to switch to winter tires?

Ctemkin, fortunately we don't get much snow here in Vancouver. And to answer your question, I won't be driving my E500 in the snow. I chose Pilot Sports A/S because I wanted better wet performance because we do get more than a fair share of rain here.

Performance rating of the Pilot Sports A/S in is rated good. Test report in Tire Rack shows 7.7 versus 5.7 against ContiTouring Contact CH95.
