Whisling sounds from A/C !!
Am owning E-240 Model 2004.
I bought the car about 2 and half years ago and i had never checked or measured the gas for the A/C or refill it.
for the last week i had noticed some whisling sounds coming from my a/c "front" as soon as am turning it on - this sound is not continious which can disappear for 5 or 10 seconds then return back immediatlly for another minute.
I went to a workshop who told me that there is a shortage in the gas and i need to refill it.
So am wondering if this is true or is this how this car behaive when the A/C gas goes down ?
Anybody face such a problem with this model and solve it in another way?

I would check the fan (blower) motor. These cars have a chronic problem with bearing failure in the electric blower motor (not the fan in the engine compartment). This unit is located below the glove box. A new Behr unit is about $130 US. I would think a dealer would eliminate that possibility but you never know. If it is the blower motor, the sound should change pitch / disappear as the speed is changed

Hiss or whistle
from the vents is an indication of low 134a in the system.
Proper way to ill it is have it evacuated checked for leak down and filled by weight.
cheap way is toss in half a can of r134a
I stay away from W211's so haven't tried it but someone on this forum probably knows if your model has onboard a/c diagnostics like our w210's and other models that you access via the climate control.
Shows sensor values and a/c errors such as r134a fill.
