Tire Recommendation for E320CDI?
Tire Recommendation for E320CDI?
I have a 2005 E320CDI and am very unhappy with the tires that are presently on it. They are Bridgestone Turanza LS-Z tires. They only have 8,000 miles on them and one of them is all warped in the middle and the car vibrates while driving at almost all speeds. Nothing is worse than bad tires. I can't find the paperwork and just don't want to jump through hoops to get new of this non-impressive tire. I have factor rims, but just want a quiet tire at a decent price that can handle this car.
Thanks so much!

The DWS is the all-season flavor and the DW is the summer tire. I put the DWS on every vehicle I own, that they sell the correct size for. Awesome tire.

Depends on what you're looking for (ride, handling, tire life, cost, etc).
Personally, I use Goodyear TripleTreds. They don't have the best handling or the best ride, but they have good tread life and wet traction. My first set of tires lasted ~66k miles (80k rating).
I like the Michelins as well. They have good ride quality, but don't last long ($$$).
The TireRack website is a good internet resource for reviews & such (not a spokesman).

I also have a CDI, 2005. I am headed to Costco today for 3rd set of OEM Michelin's. All in about $700. About 110,000 miles. Second set has plenty of summer miles left but headed in to midwest winter time for some new tread
Went through a similar battle with our CDI and found alignment to be a weak point.
Finding an alignment place that is prepared to honestly tackle the job and then,,,,see about new tires.

I learned after I almost went into a side slide on a wet road in my AWD Subaru to stick with factory original tires. When I changed back to factory tires no more problems.
My 2008 E-320 CDI has Michelin MXV4 Plus tires. When I go to http://www.michelinman.com/ and search on my car, the web site doesn't show the original tires.

My last car I had the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S 225-55-16 and they lasted 65k miles,
very good tire.
I now have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus 225-55-16 and they are good tires also
but they don't look like they will last as long as the Exalto's.
Check Tire Rack they have a good way to see how tires stack up.

Camber, toe, caster? I've never gotten close to those number. The MBZ dealer said only expect about 30,000 miles on a set. I got close to 40,000 with due to inner tire wear with -1.5, -1.2 camber, +0.28, +0.20 toe and 10.0, 10.1 Caster when measured after 37,000 miles on a Conti TourningContact DWS tires 225/55R16 95H.

$500 delivered to my local installer, $60 to mount and balance them. $300 cheaper than the Michellins I was considering. I've had Michellins in the past in 3 different cars and 1 light truck, so far I really don't feel much of a difference (if at all)

My car came to me with the exact same tires, biggest crap I ever had for tires. Mine wore inside and had a lot of chop, which pretty much gave the same roar/vibration you describe, the lower the speed the louder it was.
I replaced my tires with these exact tires, can not emphasize enough how much I love them (about 1500 miles into ownership) I drove them plenty on snow and slush, they gripped nicely for a RWD car. Now that warm weather is around the corner, I only expect them to get better.

What were your tire mileage life and aligmnent angles?
Old alignment at 37,000 miles
(before realignment)
Left Right Front
Camber -1.5 -1.2
Caster: +10.0 +10.1
Toe +0.28 +0.20
Left Right Rear
Camber -1.1 -1.6
Toe +0.33 +0.07

I understand this thread is OLD - but since others are posting - this is what I used. They are AWESOME. I was using another brand in the same size...I could spin the tires easily from a dead stop. With the DWS - they hook up quickly and get me off the line much cleaner.

I have them on my both my MB's and love them. Very quiet and great in the PNW rain.
Need new tires for my 06 E320 CDI. Anyone have recent experience in this?
This thread is a bit old!
Bridgestone Taranza Serenity tires on the car now were nearly new when I bought the car in June, 2013. I have had it aligned twice since then. Now one is showing cord after about 32,000 miles of use. (Is alignment really difficult for this model MB?)
I would prefer an A/S tire that is not noisy and has some real snow and ice capability as we have a 400' long steep hill approaching our house. In NW VA nine months are typically ice and snow free, but I guess some in this area opt for full winter tires and wheels. Fine if you need to get out every day, but I do not.
Conti PureContact w/Eco+tech are loved by some, but seem to have, sometimes, weak sidewalls. At Tire Rack more than one review mentioned this. Sidewall integrity is important as I have a 4,800' gravel road to my house and rocks do appear. A visitor in a Saab convertible had a flat on our road due to sidewall failure, but he had low profile tires, brand unknown.
Michelin Pilot MXM4 at Costco seem to get poor snow reviews, but at $650 installed seem a reasonable deal.
I would appreciate any recent info on your experience for tires for this diesel. TIA.
