How many inches did you lower? Lowering cost? Where?

I got it lowered at D2technik.com (ask for Dave or Collins and tell them that Jose sent you). Since I bought the 19" Lowenharts from them (along with some of the PIAA bulbs and the flat MB hood cover) they gave me a deal on the lowering module and installation for $500 out-the-door (I have airmatic). I don't know the exact number of inches it was lowered but I told them that I wanted the gap between the top of the tire to the fender to be about 1 finger. Before lowering, I could have fit about 5 fingers in that gap. They can lower the car to exactly the height you want and I can still raise my height (0.5 inches). The whole process took about 3-4 hours. No rubbing whatsover, I'm just extra careful for potholes and curbs. Funny, now I have the itch to go 20s. Anyone interested in my set PM me.

Your car looks fantastic. Period. I don't think you need to go 20" but hey...

Well done.

Lig: Thanks for the compliment.

Thuglaw: Post your pix when you get your 20s.

Tezta: Thanks, it does look so much better lowered. Unfortunately, I don't know what module D2technik used to lower the car. Just paid the money. But I'm sure there aren't too many modules out there, so they may have used RBtech's if it is one of the inexpensive ones. I can't imagine they used Brabus or Kleenman modules that would charge $1k-$2k.

I like the car but not the wheels

I like the car but not the wheels. By using those wheels you are transforming and executive car to a ghetto car.

The wheels dont look proportional to the car. Maybe 18' wheels can look better.

Take a look at this 18' wheels in the new BMW 5 series.

The car and lowering look great...the wheels are a bit too bling-bling for my taste. Glad you like them.

SF: I did not have to roll the fender (the tire sizes are 235/35/19 and 265/30/19) although I would prefer 245/35/19 and 275/30/19. In any event, even if I went to the larger size tires, I would not have to roll the fenders. The ride is stiffer, as anticipated, but to me it isn't bad if I put the suspension/stiffness to level 1 on the airmatic. Riding on level 2 is too bouncy and hard. Go ahead and lower your car, it will be great!

Pogo: Yes, see your e-mail.

Aaron/CRB: Thanks for the compliments. BTW, I am a lawyer and neither my colleagues nor clients have ever told me that my car looks "ghetto" or is "bling bling". I like the wheels, but to each their own, right? It's "all good" in the hood.

All this talk about 19" wheels, 20" wheels; do you guys actually drive your cars or just look at them!! LOL. Those wheels would last about a day almost anywhere in the Long Island/NYC area. I'll be adding 18" AMG's (against my better judgment) soon. My 2000 E430 came with 17" sport wheels and Eagle F1 tires. 3 wheels were bent in the first year and had to be replaced.

Joseesq,

Wow, what a huge difference with the lowering module kit, it looks much better. Will look even better if you get the 245/275 (285) setup if you don't get the 20's.

I guess eveybody has thier own opinions about rims on cars, but as you said, "to each his own." It's actually good everybody feels differently or else no one's would really stand out. I have 19's on my C and have not heard one negative comment about it. Even my parents and older relatives have complimented me about my car and they are conservative to say the least.

Although I only drive it mainly on weekends, I still put about 800 miles a month on it and have not had any driving problems whatsoever. No rubbing or bent wheels at all. Nobody has any perfect driving situations, but I think if you drive smartly you will not harm your large wheels, but hey... that's just my opinion.

I think you're car looks great as is and will look even that much better with bigger tires or 20's. Can't wait to see it in person in July!

Later,

John

In my opinion, I don't find them ghetto at all. I think Lowenhart's are just more "aggressive" than what mercedes is used to

John: Thanks dude! See you in July and we'll race. j/k Yeah, I hope to get the bigger tires soon, if I can get a deal on them or even 20s. A friend of a friend says he works in a wheel shop that fabricates forged 3-piece wheels and he can get me a great deal. If he comes through then I'll be sporting 20" 3-piece wheels by July. :p

Tezta: I'm not sure what silver painted means. All I know is that it is the stock silver from Lowenhart. You get to choose from either silver or chrome and I went with the former with 8.5 in the front and 9.5 in the rear.

Henry47: I hear ya. Thanks.

pogo: Wow, you must not be in Los Angeles since you can't drive over 100+ everyday because of our horrendous traffic. My current set-up is 19x8.5 front with 235/35/19 and 19x9.5 in the rear with 265/30/19. My preference would be to run 20" wheels or get bigger tires on my 19" (i.e., 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 or 285/30/19). I would love to go 285/30/19, but I'm just afraid of rubbing, especially if I have a car full of people. I know Crazy4cars says it is no problem since he is running 285/30/19, but I would hate to buy those tires and then find out after the fact that they rub. In any event, I still have at least 1 year of good tread on my tires, but if someone has a staggered set of tires they want to sell me then please PM. Thanks.

Jose, you got a good deal on those wheels because they are the old style LD1's. The new ones which I have, are full face machined cut, which means that the face of the wheel is polished and coated. Yours are silver painted ( the face of the wheel) and the lip is machined cut as mine.
