bluetooth

Does anybody know for sure if the new command is gonna be bluetooth compatible? I'm holding off on getting a new cell phone for this reason. I'm in disbelief that MB has kept people totally in the dark.

A complete unknown at this point, I have been asking this question for months...if it is bluetooth compatible, I really won't get the $2K v60 phone, I will just use my T68i...actually there are no specs on the NAVI that I have found except the one little description that was printed with the E55 announcement

The NAV unit will have Bluetooth compatibility. However, that doesn't mean that any Bluetooth enabled phone will work with the system. I also read that Mercedes-Benz will sell their own Bluetooth enabled phone to go along with the system. This raises the question...that is, will the system only work with their Bluetooth phone? Sadly enough, it appears that might be true. While MB will use the technology they'll gear to their benefit on both ends. I also have a T68i, so I’m optimistic this isn’t the case.

Well, even if it is not Bluetooth compatible, it will at least have the Universal Mobile Phone Interface, which will allow you to use virtually any mobile phone.

the Universal Mobile Phone Interface means you need to spend 2K to install mb phone, the only difference is the UMI allows you to have different phone model instead of v60.

without spending 2k, no phone software is installed in your mb and bluetooth feature will not work between your car and phone.

i and my wife both use t68i as well, you can buy a bluetooth hadnsfree headset, e.g. HBH-30, with t68i voice active feature, you can drive and talk without problems. (you can dump your t68i in your briefcase or purse and you can even talk after you park car and walk away it.)

this is inexpensive way to enjoy hand free phone while you are driving.

$2k? Where have you seen this figure? The UHI is said to cost around $200. Is that suppose to be additional to foundation wiring? If you know that it will cost $2k, post the link.

Knowing how MB prices their options, that would sound about right. But, I would prefer to be sure than to presume.

200 for UMI (interface only) but 2000 for your mb phone installation (integrate phone with car computer, this is the "foundation")

you cannot spend 200 bucks without 2000 bucks investiment first. (2000 bucks integrate your car with v60 phone, 200 bucks change the v60 interface to UMI which allows you use other phones.)

the current interface for w211 only works for mb v60 phone (note: it is mb v60 not the regular v60 you get from the streets) for charging, sending info between phone and comand, for example, pressing button in steering wheel to pick up a call or voicing activate to pick up phone, showing phone information in ceter console, reduce or mute music volume, etc. -- that 2000 bucks go.

if you only invest 200 bucks then you can simply buy a phone charger which only costs you less then 20 bucks. (mb always rips off us but it provides mb quality of services.)

What the hell, 2k for a integrated phone???
Suposse on that side of Atlantic is different.
I ordered the Nokia interface for 700 €. Even my 5 year-old Nokia 5110 works fine. I bought a used 6210 and also works fine.

Hope the future UMI only costs 200+ and can use any phone. Let´s wait and see.
