Saw an E55 Today...
On the way home today, at Calabasas, CA, I stop right behind a white E55 AMG with Qua-pipes on the backend. This car still has dealer plate on it, SouthBay MB. It's driven by a lady...she drives fast and tail gating people. I cann't take a good look of the rims and brakes. The car is consider dirty, probably haven't washed for almost 2 weeks...the front rims have darker color due to the black brake dust. The front look a bit different on the lighting area. The headlamp washer has gray color triangle rather than body color. Other than bigger tire/rims, 4 pipes on the back and front headlamp washer color, everything else looks about the same as regular E-class. A perfect sleeper!! NICE!!!

I can't imagine Benz having a different colour headlight cleaning plug to the rest of the car,it must have been the light reflecting on it that made it look a slightly different colour.

I don't think that was a real E55 AMG. I remember seeing a 2003 E500 Sport that was 'converted' to an E55 about 6 months ago on eBay, and I know it was White and I'm a good 95% sure that it had South Bay dealer plates on it. The owner dumped some serious money into it and had obviously seen some '04 E55 shots, as it had the correct wheels, exhaust, air dam, etc. I think he/she thought it could bring some serious dough from someone being 'the first on the block' well in advance of the true E55 U.S. release. If I remember correctly, the asking price was in the $70Ks (?) but I don't think it had any engine modifications --- just cosmetic. Does anyone else remember seeing this car on eBay?

That maybe true...
I didn't get the chance to see the car stop and check out the breaks. Hopefully I can spot it again.

I saw (and bid and lost) on the modified white car on eBay. He apparently DID have the engine modifications and the sale of it "fell through" twice after I bid on it. It finally sold for the high 50's. Looked like a descent car but I suspect it had some undefined "issues" as I'm not sure why it would have been for sale in the first place with less than 3k mi.

If it was the same guy, I had emailed him and he said it was a true E55. He said something like their company works with AMG(a supplier) and so they get early production cars and they were selling them off because they were done with them or something. He actually had mentioned he would be getting more. Sounded a little funny to me since I would not expect AMG would let a supplier sell early production cars...
