Wrong Nav DVD version?
I bought my 08 E350 from a dealer that wasn't a MB dealer. When I got the car it didn't have the navigation DVD and the dealer said they'd get one to me. In the meantime I found that I needed the Mercedes-Benz Harman Becker COMAND - North America Map DVD v.9.0 but they mailed me v.8.0
I kind of read around and found that if the wrong disc is inserted it can mess up the whole thing so I don't want to put it in until I know for sure. So is the only difference between v.8.0 and v.9.0 just updated roads etc.? I'm sure the selling dealer just found one and didn't want to buy the most up dated disc (which is fine) but I don't want to end up having a problem by using it.

Yes, the v9 is the newest version of the disc with the updated maps and roads. Check the dvd to confirm these part numbers match your v8.0. dvd
Part number:
BQ 6 46 0243
A211 827 23 65
Version 8.0
MY04 - MY06 S-Class & CL Class
MY03 - MY08 E-Class Sedan
MY04 - MY08 E-Class Wagon
MY05 - MY08 SLK-Class and SL-class
MY06 - MY08 CLS-Class
Also depending on which DVD version you had previously, your COMAND and Navigation processor might need an update.
COMAND update (w211589142200) performed by inserting the service DVD into head unit single disc player.
Navigation module/processor update (w211589152200) performed by inserting service DVD into navigation drive in trunk.

Thanks for the response. But the plot thickens. I just got the mail and there was an overnight envelope that had the proper v.9.0 disc in it and it stated the other disc was sent out by mistake. So I'm sending it back (it did have the correct #'s you posted though).
Now I have the most up to date version of the DVD. I can't check to see if it works because the car is with my wife at work but I'll check when she gets home. Worst case is it won't work but I'm suppose to take it to the MB dealer on Monday to get a couple of things fixed and I can get them to help me out.
My new disc is version 9.0 BQ 6 46 0257 A211 827 26 65

I have an 07, ordered the V9 disk & inserted it into the trunk drive. It required no update & works fine. The NAV in our cars is not as slick as a cheap Garmin, but it will always get you there.

I have the same story as crawdad62. Got my car (08 E350 4matic) from a non MB dealer and no NAV DVD. The only difference is that its been a week since I have my car and I visited them today and they said next week (DVD is in the mail ). I don't think I'm getting it any time soon.

Just a couple weeks ago, I was using the navigation to get to a restaurant I've never been to. The problem was the navigation doesn't have an exact address, but a "range" of numbers closest to the address. The navigation said I was at my destination, but clearly I had to drive three more blocks to the restaurant. My passenger was like
This is why I keep my TomTom in the center console, especially if I go to an unfamiliar destination at night

If you looked up the restaurant using the POI function, it should bring you directly to the restaurant. If you manually entered the address than yes it will only provide a range of numbers.

The TomTom GPS is handy especially for residental addresses. At night sometimes it is difficult to locate house numbers. An example is when I input my house address. The MB gps tells me to turn left (although I have to make a right), the reason it does that is due to the range of addresses starting on the left.

I will most likely do the updates every two years. I am getting more use to the uniqueness of the MB navigation system since I have a garmin 2610 for my motorcycle. The garmin comes with Mapsource software (for programming routes) which works almost identical to the MB navigation system, which both use the NAVTEQ (?) map system. If only we could download routes to the MB system, it would be really cool!

I have also tried the new Nav NTG 2.5 (loaner car from MB), and it is alot nicer and user friendly.

I don't have any idea of their update cycle but the v.9.0 disc I have has 2010 on it so it was updated in this year I assume. I don't see myself updating unless there's new features (I can live without new minor roads) and I assume at some point even the features will surpass the capability of the nav. drive.

Honestly I looked at the v.8.0 I was sent (see first post) disc on the computer only because I was curious to what it contained. I saw all the same file that were on the v.9.0 disc with the exception of the file names being 8x (which I can't comment regarding creation date on since I sent it back) instead of 9x on my new disc. I'm assuming it's got more to do with the version of the disc than when it was created. I even saw most of the files were created in as early as 2004. But regardless of creation vs. release date I still won't update unless there's a compelling feature set that I'm able to utilize.

I doubt they would have a team working on feature improvements for a head unit/Nav system thats out of production for so many years. ...and you're right the road data doesn't change too much in almost all areas. My rule of thumb? While listening to NAV voice instructions, if the road/pavement looks new-ish, you have to read the signs in addition to just blindly following instructions.
Save your dough on the Map updates. The POIs are what really change somewhat, and the POIs on our NAVs arent that good anyway.
