E211 trans issues
Bought a 2003 e500 locally wiht 68K on it. It seemed clean and the car fax didn't show much. about 250 miles later in the week, I start the car put it in drive and it goes about 4 feel and then it was like slpipping it into nuetral. No Reverse either. If I shut the car off and let it cool off for an hour or so I could drive it 10 feet and then the same.
I have a MPP Gold service contract so I guess I get to find out how good they are.....
are the e500's using the 4hp22 trans? Manufacture date was in November of 2002 so it was a very early 03....
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

verdict
glycol contamination.
They are recommending to replace the radiator & transmission.... they are working with my service contract and the dealer that I got the car from.

Hard to believe that all these years later, there are still 03's & 04's out there with the defective radiator still in them costing people big dollars on repairs that should have never been necessary.

I hear ya! I bought my car last year with just 50k miles on it - the low miles was the selling point. I now think the low miles were because the prior owner(s) could not figure out what was wrong - or did figure out and it kept going from dealer to dealer. The dealer who sold it to me promptly stopped taking my calls/emails, I figured its the risk of buying used, and just sucked it up and paid for the fix. Its my first Mercedes, I'm stunned at the poor quality parts. Not sure if I'll buy another, but that CLS550 sure looks nice - I'll have the rad and transmission checked first this time!
