Racing with My E320
OK...Maybe not racing, but haulin' *** around 180 degree turns. Need to ask for other opinions (I have the Sport Package):
1) Do the Continentals suck, or is it just me??
2) As I was power sliding through turns, the car got to a break point where the *** just slipped out, constantly. I have owned a few BMW's (5 series & 3), but the 5 series never lost it as soon as the E320?
Any advice, other than those that will just say "don't drive like that"? Do I need different tires? Yokos, Pirellis (even though I don't like Pirellis), Toyo?
Thanks.

The ContiTourings do suck. I have them on my E. The Edmunds review also mentioned poor handling characteristics from the Continentals:

Some new tires would definitely help- Michelin Pilot Sports, Yokohama AVS Sports, etc...

Gregg: You may want to also consider upgrading wheel size to 18" with a staggered set-up (18x9 front and 18x10 in the rear) so you can maximize the rubber size as well with 245 and 275 tire widths. With more rubber on the road you should get more grip and less roll or fishtail.

kumho
most of the guys that i know that race BMWs have changed their tires to kumho tires.
pretty cheap, decent quality, etc.
not the best by any means but they all say that the tires give them the best bang for the buck.
Rock.

I got new tires from MB
I have a E500 with sport package that came with ContiTourings they do suck. I complained to the dealer that the brochure and web site and window sticker state that the car comes with high performance tires, the non-sport comes with all season tires why do they have the same tires. My service advisor looked into and advised me that the car should have "W" rated high performance tires. The service order says "Car delivered from VPC with wrong tires mount and balance four sport tires as per SPOM".
After 5000 hard miles, they replaced the original ContiTourings with Sport Contact 2s. Not the best tires but a noticeable improvement at no cost. Anyway the day after I got the car back I got a call from the dealer telling me that they are replacing my car with a new 2003, same color and options because they can not retrofit the command system that I pre-ordered. I hope the new one has the right tires.
