Ethanol Usage
Its almost impossible to find any major station that doesn't have at least 10% ethanol in their gas. Here in NC stations don't have to advertise ethanol on the pump at the 10% mixture. If and when it goes to 15% then there has to be a label on the pump. I have 58k on my E320 and I'm sure the previous owner also had to use gas with ethanol. Over the long haul what if any effect will this have on the engine. I know that my MPG takes a hit and it also destroys small engines unless you put an additive in the tank.

Marinas usually have 91 octane gas without ethanol. I use it for home generator and various tools. If my '92 500E is going to sit for a while I also use no ethanol gas.

The answer is yes, Ethanol is bad and it's only getting worse with a new E15 standard right around the corner. It's really harsh stuff and not at all good for cars a few years old. Political correctness aside, it's just a huge scam. It takes 1.5 gallons of gas to make 1.0 gallon of E. Also, it's 30% less fuel economy but it does make more power. All in all a bad deal and even the environmentalists say it is a bad idea.
