06 E350 4MATIC - 5 or 7 spd auto?
I thought the E350's had 7 speeds? I test drove one yesterday, and at highway speeds I manually downshifted it and it went into 4th, which I am assuming means that this car was a 5 spd.

Hi mdw, Cosinus didn't have that right. In the 320 and 350 5 speed transmission is standard 7 speed was an option whether or not it was 4matic. I have a E500 and 7 speed and 4matic was standard with the car.

The 211 with the 350 enigne was sold with the 7G. Option was the 4matic.
There was no question about the 320 engine or 500/550.

A few toys & 07' E350 4matic w/AMG sport packg.
So many confusing posts...
2003-2009 w211 320/350/500/550 4matics = 5 speed
2003-2005 w211 320/500 rwd = 5 speed
2006-2009 w211 350/550 rwd = 7 speed
2003-2009 w211 320/350/500/550 4matics = 5 speed

Yes, the rwd 350 engine came with 7G and an option was the 4matic. HOWEVER, if you chose the 4matic option then your came came with the 5 sp tranny. ALL W211 4matic cars from 03-09 came with the 5sp tranny. I have an 06 E350 4matic. it has the 5 sp tranny.

2004-2006 w211 500 rwd = 7 speed (on CLK500 5 sped stayed for 2004)
2006-2009 w211 350 rwd = 7 speed
2007-2009 w211 550 rwd = 7 speed
2003-2006 w211 55 AMG = 5 speed
2007-2009 w211 63 AMG = 7 speed
