Were They right? They also change one front shock that was bad, shouldn't They have to change both shocks?
MB recommends replacing both sides (conventional shocks or Airmatic struts) if mileage is 50,000 > per bulletin S-B-32.25/82.

If you go to a shop with 1 bad shock, they always tell you you should never replace just the one because of ride and safety issues... They'll spend 20 minutes listing all of the dangers, and how they must be replaced in pairs, so you have to dig in and pay to replace a perfectly good shock also when you replace the bad one, so you remain safe and secure.
When it comes to a warranty claim on that same one bad shock a year later, all of a sudden its perfectly OK to replace the bad one only... no safety or ride issues are EVER mentioned. They never dig in... They'll take as much time as you need to understand they'd never jepordize your safety, and replacing the bad one only will solve all your problems.

Is good to know my 211 with airmatic has 30.000 more miles to go before changing the struts ( if they last that long!)
