My 2004 has it and I use it all the time. I think the Mercedes made this feature automatic so that they would simplify the car. Tons of things have been discontinued on the E after 2004!

1) Downwards lights under the side mirrors.
2) The knob/turn wheel to get cold air out of the middle vents when you have the heat on.
3) The "rest" button.
4) Auto tilting passenger mirror when in reverse.
5) Auto-tilting steering wheel/move seat backwards when entering and exiting the car (easy entry feature).
6) SBC
7) Vents/lovers that close the airflow to the radiators when it is cold out behind the grill.
8) The FSS service is now set to a fixed 10K mile interval.

And I am sure I am forgetting a few other things….

I have 4, 5, on my 06 model, and they can be enabled or disabled via the steering wheel control menu.

I also have #6 standard, and the FSS service interval is 13K not 10K.

So them how come most of us (virtyally all except 1) have never seen the rest feature come on automatically. I sure would have ppreciated this when a 1:00 AM flight got delayed by over an hour when I went to the airport to pick up a friend and I ended up spending over an hour in my car. I had the engine running a few times but I never saw the rest feature kick in. If someone can duplicate the conditions under the rest feature comes on that would be most useful.

Good question! I have no idea what is going on with the new climate control panel! I used my rest feature when I picked up my neighbors from the airport just last night. I really like this feature!

There is another thread about this on mbworld where a 2007+ car without the button will enable this automatically and the LED will illuminate. It was in the same scenario - if I recall correctly the person stopped the car and was having lunch or something and the light came on so he posted here asking what it was. He also took a picture of the display and it was indeed on. I don't think it was ever determined what the circumstances were to have it come on. It was discontinued on the 2005.5 cars up in the US. Early 2005 cars have it (my 2005 happens to).

The next time mine comes on, I'll take a picture of it. I often come down to the garage and find the "REST" mode is on .. and the rear AC controls (4-zone climate on the E550) is also on and shows the temp setting. You can also hear a slight hum from a blower/fan near the engine area.

Just be careful because on my car if you open ANY door, the rest feature shuts off. I had to leave my window down so that I could lean in to take the picture of the word "rest" on the display.

Just a Thought...

If this REST feature is coming on on cars located in the warm parts of the country right now? If so, is it possible that it is turning on to blow away moisture in the system after shut down of the car (&A/C) to eliminate the mold & mildew smell problem?

I don't think this is the case because people have been saying that it clearly says REST and that there were in fact comfortale with warm ait while it was colder outside.

In the summer, my 04 W211 will make all kinds of little noises after I park it in my garage. This happens most every time it is humid and I had the A/C running hard. I left the hood open and noticed that the blower motor was running ever so faintly. The rest button was NOT pressed by me and it was NOT illuminated. However, some hot air was coming out of the vent where the windshield wipers are (outside vent).

I called me service writer and he told me that it was the automatic climate control drying the A/C core. Apparently, these cars (at least my model year) will turn on the heat and dry off the A/C core so that it will not STINK! My car does NOT do this in the winter, but I sure hear it all the time in the summer.

I thought this was interesting,

Steve

So have they also removed the REST feature from the 2011 W212? I wasn't able to find the REST feature on the following photo of the 2011 W212 climate control control cluster.

http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA...llery21_wr.jpg

Unrelated but it seems on the W212 you can no longer (unlike the W211) have each of the front passengers decide how the airflow comes out: i.e front passenger has 82 degree warm air flowing to her feet while the driver has normal airflow at 72 degrees. I only see one set of blower and airflow controls for both front passengers...
