Check engine light & gas cap on '05 cdi
My question is: If a CEL is triggered by a faulty gas cap and the cap is replaced, does the code need to be manually reset or will it turn off on its own and stay off? On my '08 Dodge pickup, some codes are stored and have to be manually reset or it'll keep throwing a light even if the problem has been fixed.
I also have been noticing a bit of a diesel smell the last couple days, so it's going in to the shop this week to repair/replace what I'm guessing is a leaky fuel line connection. This happened once years ago where a fuel hose clamp needed to be replaced, but that never triggered a CEL.

It most likely is not the fuel cap and you are guessing at the cause.(fuel cap loose the fuel light blinks) then it throws a code.
The post above was spot on,pull the code or codes,it might not even be a problem with the evap system it could be a problem in the other sections of the emissions system.
